Looks like I might be going down there from June 16-23. Brother and his family are getting a condo. I'm not that familar with the area. What is there to do and where should I eat (healthy food and original as well)?

Well, I grew up in BR. I actually return home to there this week for a visit with the family. What can I say? If you like traffic and lots of really old people, Boca Raton is the palce for you! The Boca Raton Hotel is nice but I can't think of much else to do/see. It's close to West Palm and Miami so there should be plenty to do in nearby towns. Joss Stone is playing Ft. Lauderdale on Saturday so I might hit that before heading to Key West.

Cheers.

Personally I don't think I could bring myself to go to a place called Rat's Mouth.

I have a friend who moved there after college. After about 3 years of little old people everywhere who drive too slow, she is moving back to Alabama.

There is a Joe's Stone Crab in either Ft Lauderdale or Boca. It is a great place for seafood and steaks.

If you have never been to West Palm and Palm Beach, a drive from Boca along A1A is awesome. The mansions once you get near Palm Beach are some of the most amazing on Earth. Plus Jimmy doesn't start touring again until June 23rd so maybe you'll bump into him on Worth Ave in downtown West Palm (though I am guessing he doesn't hang there too often). West Palm has some great restaurants and is a really fun place to people watch.

But THE BEST people watching in the US is at the sidewalk cafes in South Beach. If you've never been to South Beach in Miami (or MEE AM EEE, as it's said down there) it is awesome. I love sitting and having lunch at one of the outside restaurants because it is really fun to watch the super models stroll by. There are some great culinary choices. The club scene is amazing, too, but it doesn't start getting busy till about 11 pm.

Otherwise, Boca is a sleepy, typical Florida town where u will see many people whose heads don't reach above the steering wheel driving very large cars very slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwly.
The beach is very nice and there are some places to eat. But all the fun stuff is in West Palm, Miami and, to a lesser extent, Fort Lauderdale.

I am a big fisherman and teh Spotsfishing Hall of Fame in Ft Lauderdale is pretty cool, too.

Have fun.
I don't want to live on that kind of island
No, I don't want to swim in a roped off sea.
Too much for me, too much for me
I've got to be where the wind and the water are free.

Good to hear it's a sleepy little town. After the past eight months that's actually what I need. I'll probably drive over to Loxahatchee and do the canoe trail, see some gators, hit all the damn beaches, go to Deerfield Island Park....eat Cuban and Caribbean food, grab some conch fritters and pray I make it through annother year.

deerfield beach is right south of boca.

go to the whales rib on A1A just north of the hillsboro bridge, or just south of the palmetto park one.

They have the best lobster bisque and oysters around.

They serve all their drinks in small pitchers and the people around the bar have been there for 20 years.

Seriously... the BF lives two blocks from it and he is an 18 show vetern. Its the first place he took me to on the first place to visit, and when he had to work through lunch... I still went by myself!

Debbie behind the bar is lovely, and don't mind earl helping himself to more ice. :)

it's the inlet, from the ocean, the sailors throught it looked like a rat's mouth. It's actually a very beautiful area.

I've been here 24 hours and this place sucks. I do not remember so many idiots being here when I was young. The roads are a nightmare and everybody drives like they're on crack.

There is a rumor of the only kava bar in the mainland somewhere in Boca Raton. That could save the weekend if I find it!

Key Wet on Monday....amen.

There is little redeeming value left in most of S.FL. It takes about 15 minutes being back for all my memories to be reduced to ashes.

I miss Key West, but I don't miss MIA one bit.
"Key West trades in on the name 'Hemingway." You can't take a leak without seeing Hemingway this and Hemingway that. And the irony is, if Hemingway were alive today he'd take a blowtorch to Duvall Street." Hiaasen
