Where to buy parrothead/tiki stuff?
Not much selection here in the Great White North, but I'll be traveling down to Pittsburgh (by way of Buffalo NY and Erie PA) in a few weeks -- not for Jimmy's show, unfortunately -- and I'd like to see if I can pick up some parrothead/tiki stuff while I'm there.
Any recommendations (for specific stores in that area, or chain stores)? From time to time I see BNers posting about all the great decorating stuff they've found at Lowe's, Big Lots, etc.
Also... I saw the Margaritaville Frozen Concoction Maker at Linens & Things for $349 CDN. With a 20% off coupon, that's $280 CDN. This is the original version, not the new model being released in a couple of weeks. How much does the original go for in the States? What stores would carry it? (I figure the original version is good enough for me, and the Canadian dollar is almost at par with the U.S. dollar!)

I know that Bed Bath and Beyond has the Frozen Concoction Maker for $299 USD with the "accessories "and the 20% coupons are everywhere (they take competitor coupons too). That would end up being about $239 USD. I don't know the exact $$$ conversion off hand, so I'm not sure if that's a better deal for you or not.

same price as BB&B at US Linen and Things. You might even ask at the store for a coupon-BB&B often will give you one. Or see if a customer has extras-I have given them out frequently when I am in line.FunkHouse9 wrote:I know that Bed Bath and Beyond has the Frozen Concoction Maker for $299 USD with the "accessories "and the 20% coupons are everywhere (they take competitor coupons too). Make sure you have your passport in time. I have a Canadian friend (he isn't very bright - or maybe he just doesn't want to see me) that is complaining about the time required to get a passport. I thought we still had open borders between Canada and US but he claims not.

If he's flying then NOT, but if he is driving then a birth certificate and photo ID (driver's license) will still do.Skibo wrote:Make sure you have your passport in time. I got some great palm tree stuff at the party rental/sales store here in Ottawa. (Cody, on Merivale). They have mardi gras beads, too, usually.
There are parrots on a stick (for gardens) at the kitschy store down my street (Heavens to Betsy, corner of Wellington and Holland, for anyone in Ottawa) and NO ONE has bought one for me yet
I bought some excellent beads at the mardi gras-type Carnaval in San Francisco last weekend....

Still okay with driver's license and birth certificate - but that's due to change next year, unless the U.S. government relents on the passport law for land crossings.karat wrote:Double check before crossing! With the idiot TB guy, who knows if things have changed.
Thanks for the suggestions folks - keep 'em coming if you think of any more. There are a couple of party supply stores near me that carry the standard luau. I'm hoping to find more interesting stuff (that you might use to decorate a tiki bar, for instance - like lights, bamboo rolls, etc).

Party City for any actual decorations as opposed to clothes or appliances. Actually, the sell grass skirts, leis, etc. But they have tiki torches, party favors, etc.

Call OTDE before ordering. Not sure if they're still a going concern. I know the building they used to be in is empty & up for sale. I used to go into their retail store quite a few years back. Antique/junque shop with the tropical/pirate/hot sauce stiff thrown in on top!!!! Used to love spending time (and a bit of $$$) there.Tropic_Al wrote:Try www.orientaltrading.com, lots of inexpensive(cheap, tacky, fun) items
