The U.S. has done it (Iraq most recently and others too numerous to mention). The Israelis have done it (Lebanon). Now the Turks have seemingly joined the 'pre-emption' club.
Those darn Kurds in northern Iraq have apparently been reclassified as 'rebel guerrillas' and having had a front row seat to recent regional conflicts the Turks know just how to deal with the situation.
The Turkish officials did not tell the Associated Press where their force was operating in northern Iraq, nor did he say how long they would be there. Both officials are involved in anti-rebel operations, though they did not disclose whether they participated in the planning of the operation on Wednesday.
The officials said any confrontation with Iraqi Kurdish groups, who have warned against a Turkish incursion, could trigger a larger cross-border operation. The Turkish military has asked the government in Ankara to approve such an incursion, but the government has not given formal approval.

So now . . . is the enemy (Kurds) of your friend (Turks) ALSO your enemy, or is the enemy (Kurds) of your enemy (Saddam's Iraqis) your friend?
I feel bad for the Kurds - they don't have any oil to bargain with.

Actually, if you actually read something about Iraq, you would learn that the largest oil fields are located in Kurdish northern Iraq.
Once again you prove that you are a dumba$$

Oops, you're right. The Kurds DO have oil to bargain with.
But back to my question: Friend or enemy?
I think with their potential oil reserves (which they have yet to gain any control over) they could make GOOD friends. We like to be friends with folks who have something we want.
On that note, I STILL feel sorry for the Kurds . . .

Our REAL enemies are the environmentalist nut cases.
explain.
All "nutcases" are the enemy. I include bible thumping ultra conservatist-hand in Gov't pockets- in the group of nutcases- do you?
If so, I agree with you in respect to the small minority of environmentalists who are nutcases. If not, then you are the alter ego of the environmentalist nutcase. Just as bad if not worse in my book

Well, in 2006 after the US invasion the Turkish government stated that they had sent troops into Norhtern Iraq to secure their border and prevent Kurdish refugees from flooding into their country. Maybe this is different, but sending troops into another country has, at least in my understanding, always been an act of war.

Nice blanket statement there

seems like you just pre-judged all environmentalists. I find it hard to believe you've talked with them all & came to the same conclusion. Pre-judge; prejudiced; same thing...
oops, guess I just called you & your wanna-be SUV out
To clarify that I have an original SUV, an old Jeep
I know, I know.... that's kinda like being religious but not going to church-

I sense a story! Did you have a run-in with someone calling themselves enviromentalists? (just curious)
On a more philosophical note, I HAVE noticed that people who tend to brand/label themselves as "something-or-another" and are VERY into identifying themselves as such, are often rather zealous and impractical.
i.e. some ppl. who call themselves feminists but are actually believers of female superiority, not equality. I also see it with ppl. labeling themselves as Republican or Democrat. The onslaught of label dissipates the presence of reality and perspective. Not ALWAYS, but sometimes.
SPeaking also philosophically, I think it suks to be the Kurds. I don't think anyone will ever leave them alone. What you just said doesn't even make any sense.....like the Turks are saying, "we might invade, but just because we're here doesn't mean we're invading......but it doesn't mean we're not." Clear as mud.
Now, to speak crudely, i DO absolutely positively HATE PETA. There! I said it!!
