I think it depends on the venue and the show for most of them.
I'm just hoping none of them does M'ville in Key West except
the Caribbean Chillers (since they are a REALLY BIG cover band).
Hearing C'burger or M'ville more than once a day makes me grumpy.
I go to hear people do their own stuff!

All of the trop rock guys will do Buffett songs as requests - they are in the business of playing what people want to hear. That being said, most of them don't play much Buffett unless specifically requested. Sunny Jim frequently opens his Tuesday show with Banana Wind, since it has some great steel drum parts, and when he plays Margaritaville he plays a lot of Buffett music.
Jack Mosely was giving Brent Burns a hard time by requesting Buffett last weekend; Brent's comment was "he doesn't play my songs, so I don't play his." but I'm sure he plays plenty of Buffett when he plays Lulu's every Monday night.

A few Buffett songs, but mostly does his own music and I'd rather hear that anyway!

I like most of their own stuff ... eg Sunny Jim and Brent Burns.
Dont care too much for some of the others as they in my opinion are far removed from Buffett type music.
My guess is that some of the bands I have not heard of - will be doing buffett stuff ......

Actually, when we were at Lulu's last October, he really didn't play too much Buffett...I don't think...but after five JB's Perfect's ..I guess, who knows?? But I think he did a BUNCH of original stuff.

Heh Heh...you GO, Jack !!!! GAH I hope he is at MOTM,
somewhere.
And Tall Paul does Jimmy stuff....last year he played with Doyle and he about had a heart attack. Besides he plays the best version of "Werewolves of London" I've heard besides the original.

Speaking for myself. I tend to play a lot of Buffett, mixed with my originals. I also include Bob Marley and a few others. Since I only have 1 cd released I can only play so many originals, so in other words when I release more I slowly move out more of the Buffett tunes that I play.
I also tend to give other musicians that I play with work in there favorites or orignals that play. It just gives the folks listening a musical buffet.

I think it'd probably be a good way to break in new originals before recording
them, no?
And I like hearing a lot of different stuff, not just one person's originals and JB's
songs. Even Jimmy knows how to do great "covers" mixed in with his, and he has
introduced me to a lot of different artists I'd never have heard of that way.

That's right! This year I have been pitching in a couple of songs from a new cd just to get a feel of how they will go over....so far so good.

Jim Morris does 2 Buffett songs. I have never heard Scott Kirby do a Buffett song that I remember, which is a good thing. John Frinzi does ALOT! I will be skipping the cover bands at MOTM's. I like to hear their own stuff. Some bands do Buffett songs at the casa or street festival and when you catch them at a bar they dont. Howard Livingston and the mile marker 24 band are playing at Fantasy Fest so TongaTam is going to check them out then. Some of you guys saw Jonathan Birchfied last year, how was he? What did he do? As far as the Landsharks, sounds like a total cover band so we were planning on leaving Thursday night after Scott Kirby. Does anyone know who is playing all week at Margaritaville yet??

The Boat Drunks will be at Margaritaville again all week...playing lots of originals and a different set list every night!

He has a hot wife too.

At MOTM last year she said her job was to "wear tight shirts and sell CDs." She did her job well.

Jim Asbell covers quite a few of Jimmy's songs
A1A covers only the hits (Come on Jeff Pike you've been promising to add Ace back to the set list to me for years)
Mark, Eric, Jim, James, Brent, Hugo, etc generally only do them at requests and I don't think any of them have a "cover" of one on a CD.
