Wino you know wrote:MAYBE we could do a Jimmy Buffett set/wish list again, as we have in years past.
I make one every year, and, yeah, it changes slightly but since people only want him to do HIS OWN songs, maybe that could be another topic for another day.
(If people still like talking about Jimmy Buffett, that is).
AS FOR COVERS, here are a few I wouldn't mind hearing him do:
Under the Boardwalk (Drifters)
Somewhere Near Japan (Beach Boys)
Island Girl (Beach Boys)
Sloop John B (Beach Boys)
Christian Island (Gordon Lightfoot)
Captain Sunshine (Neil Diamond)
Captain Jim's Drunken Dream (James Taylor)
My Corona (Gene Mitchell)
Hey Mr. Lighthouse (Scott Kirby)
Montego Bay (Bobby Bloom)
Great minds must think alike

I thought about starting a thread of "What would be your perfect JB concert?" but didn't want to ask the question without having my own answer. SGH is right. Even though there are a bunch of songs, some already listed (both seriously and in jest) that I think he would do well, I'd rather hear more of his own stuff, the stuff that got me into him in the first place. That being said, I've had Gin and Juice in my head all, especially the line;
Too much drama in the LBC/It's kind of hard being Snoop D O double G
but that's only because my circle of friends turned into a circle of drama queens this weekend.
hey, how 'bout Dancing Queen?

Por favor Senor Jaime...
Oye Como Va - Santana (and Tito Puente before that)
RG would be a natural fit on the pans, sweet percussion beat all song long for Ralph & Roger, all kinds of killer solo material for Peter, Jim, Mac and Utley and super simple lyrics to remember for any senior moments...and I'm sure Doyle would enjoy the break to grab a cold drink.

I like it! We just saw John Prine again in concert this past Friday night at the Warner Theater in Washington DC. He was in great form and did a lot of the 1970's classics (Hello In There ... Donald & Lydia .... Paradise ... Please Don't Bury Me ... Fish & Whistle ...... Illegal Smile), plus a few recent hits taking not so subtle shots at the current administration (but he skipped Flag Decal and Some Humans Ain't Human).
But the best moment of the night might have been when someone in the audience hollered out "'Christmas in Prison' for Scooter Libby!" . They got John to chuckle pretty good at that one.

John Prine is may favorite song writer (easy everyone, Bubba's a very close second or I wouldn't be here

), and a super nice guy. Glad you got to see him. I haven't seen him since '97. He apparently only comes to Florida to go fishing these days.
Another song by him that I'd like to hear JB do is "Please Don't Bury Me".

We're on the same page. JB's a (very) close second but John Prine is far and away my favorite songwriter and performer.
A new Jimmy Buffett album comes out ... I will get it, usually the first week or so, but only if it's new studio music, I can skip all the new "Live at ..." releases. Then I'll give it a listen or 2 and then will usually shelf it and go back to the old stuff.
But a new John Prine album comes out ...... I get it at 12:01am if I can and listen over and over and over again. Easily and by far my favorite song writer. I have been a fan since the mid 70's and have seen him perhaps 25 times in various sized venues over the years. Solo and acoustic as well as with his backup musicians. I have NEVER been disappointed.
And he did Please Don't Bury Me this past Friday.

A couple more by John that I'd like to hear Jimmy do are "Sailin' Around" and "Slow Boat To China" (which is an entirely different song than JB's, for the non-Prine fans out there).

I must admit I agree with SGH on the Buffett covers.
I think an entire concert of JB written/recorded songs would be FANtastic.
Some of the "virgins" might not know the songs, but oh well.

Cowboy In The Jungle, Tin Cup Chalice, West Nashville Ballroom Gown, Life Is Just A Tire Swing, The Wino And I Know, Migration, Trying To Reason With Hurricane Season, Coast Of Marseilles....
Well.... you get my drift....

Amen!!!!

Gotta go with the Pina Colada song. As others have said, most people think Jimmy did it anyway, so he might as well do it.

That would be pretty cool. Although I do wish Jimmy would do more of his vintage/little played songs, occasional carefully chosen covers are fun to hear too.

I wish Jimmy would add Tripping Billies to the regular rotation. That was a classic!

two Sinatra songs come to mind. Mac The Knife, which he recorded with Ole Blue Eyes on the Duets album, and "That's Life" which are words to live by!
