Jiffy Lube exposed

Post by carolinagirl »

Anybody seen this?
THIS IS NOT GOOD.
And apparently Snopes.com says that this is a true report. So, please be aware!

Jiffy Lube? Ever wonder if they really did what they are charging you for?
Here's a report from California that shows that FIVE out of NINE Jiffy Lubes charged for work that hidden cameras and marked fuel filters prove they didn't do.

Serves people right for being too lazy to change their own oil.

I can change the oil in my truck in about 20 minutes. Only time I have to get under the thing is to take the old filter off and screw the new filter into place

That's about the only self-maintenance I do anymore. I no longer recognize most of the other parts.

Since they have that nice window you can watch through, I watched them not rotate my tires, not vaccuum the inside of my car, and not change the front headlight that I asked them to.

Then I watched them try to charge me for all of it. It was the last time I ever went to them.

The last time I went to Jiffy Lube, they took something from me - my air filter. I took my car to my regular mechanic for something else a couple of weeks later, and they asked if I knew it was missing....

change your own oil. problem solved . . .

I still change mine in the dead of winter on a really cold island. Not bragging . . . but too many people drop 30 bucks for an oil change which is just sad.

Yeah, but for the price (20 at my mechanic), I can get my oil changed on my way to the other handful of errands that need run, and get my tires done, and it saves me the time, effort, and the extra trip to get the supplies to change it. For me, it's time management.

There have been reports of this practice since the 90's - that's as far as I can remember.

is that like getting your hair done? I don't think I have ever had my "tires done" . . . got my friend "done" once at a bachelor party but that is like totally inappropriate.

I actually busted them once. Back when I was 18 or 19.

Can't remember if it was Jiffy Lube or Q-Lube or what, but....

After having them convince me to change my air filter on several visits in a row, I tested them. I went to the auto parts store with someone who knew about cars (I didn't at the time). We bought an air filter, changed it, then drove 2 BLOCKS to the Jiffy Lube place.

They came out with a FILTHY air filter and told me it needed to be changed. I stood up for myself, and spent the next year getting FREE service from Jiffy Lube. I took the coupons, and used them at a different location....
