ok FIRST

SGH thanks a whole damn bunch here. I have had that song in my head ever since you posted it about Toby Keith.

Now.. I was thinking (I know a shock to some and dangerous to others) I think the reason that Toby song didn't get bashed for the video is because it was meant as him blocking her out in his mind and then to make sure everyone knew it was a joke, they showed him being blocked in.

Anyway

THANKS AGAIN JEN! :D

If only life were black and white like that.

And go Wayne! I like Blackhawk myself. One of the few country artists I have bought CDs of.

I agree that I think a song like this would get a very close inspection if the roles were reversed. However, I also think that the scrutiny certain songs receive is more about the societal "norms" for the particular time that the song is released. Rick mentioned that some stations would't play Independence Day because it promoted violence against abusive men. Along the same lines, Garth Brooks had to cut a verse from the album/single recording of The Thunder Rolls because the wife shoots the cheating/abusive husband. At that time, such themes were new to country music and were thought of as taboo. I think that if the same songs were released today, with the more mainstream attitude of "country" music, they wouldn't be questioned for a minute. Up until the last few years, outright references to violence (and sex to a degree) have not been a part of mainstream country. It was either suggested (Conway Twitty comes to mind) or stayed more in the realms of the outlaw movement, like Cash singing Cocaine Blues at Folsom.

I agree. I always loved their music. It was a huge loss when Van Stephenson died, and even though it was a noble effort to make a comeback and try to be a tribute to Van, Spirit Dancer just didn't hold the same BlackHawk sound.

I didn't realize until long after I had gotten hooked on BlackHawk, that Van co-wrote several of the Restless Heart songs I fell in love with as a kid.

Well, the first thing I thought about the song was not about her trashing his truck but instead being stupid enough to carve her name in his seats.
A slam dunk case
