New Kerry Underwood song Question?

So I hanging out in one of my favorite Nantucket bars today and one of my favorite Nantucket bartenders, Melissa, asks a question as the new Kerry Underwood song comes on . . . you know, the one about beating up her boyfriend's truck because the guy was cheating . . .

Curious to hear what people think . . .

I think violence is ***** . . . but the question was, "What if a guy wrote this song? And the song was about taking a bat to his girlfriend's Volkswagon Jetta and keying up her nice leahter seats with his name . . . what if the roles where reversed . . . would it be a hit? Or would the guy siniging it be chastised and have people say that the girl needs a restraining order or something against him because he is obvisouly f'ed up in the head?"

I laughed out loud. I was like, "Wow, girl, you are totally right!" . . . why do girls get off singing violent songs or what have you in pop culture? . . . I actually like the song but I felt she raised a good point.

There is a reason why Melissa gets all the regulars down here. Again, just curious.

I agree. I said the same thing to mroc the first couple times I heard it. Song kinda sets a bad example making it seem cool to do something that destructive in jealous rage.

I don't a thing about this girl other than this song . . .

I don't even know the name of the song although I do know it seems to be a hit . . . one that seems to send a pretty defined message.

Good guitar though.

But would the song sell as good if a man sang about taking a bat to his girlfriend's car and keying up the leather seats . . . ? I think the press would have alot of fun with that . . . but if a girl does it? hmmmmm?

There's plenty of songs out there with regards to men and women 'bashing' each other.. It's just a SONG. And I like it.. And I've never, nor will I ever, ruin a person's vehicle like that.

Just FYI, both Before He Cheats and Bama Breeze were written by Josh Kear.
You can hear Carrie's version of the first and the original of the second at http://www.myspace.com/joshkear
(I really enjoy hearing him sing BB. Wish they'd booked him at MOTM.)

It's a song. If you don't like it, just don't listen to it. I don't like any of that hip-hop crap or Rush Limbaugh, so I don't listen to it. Thats the one good thing about this country--- we can choose what we listen to.

I cannot stand the song.......or for that matter, the artist. I think she is very cookie-cutter and if she didn't have such a good marketing agent, she'd be a big nobody. When artists resort to 'sensationalism' and skank-iness to sell records, I get really turned off. And yeah, my little 10 yr. old cousin listens to her, and i have a feeling if her mother knew about THIS song, that would be the end of that! (mom won't even let her read Harry Potter...Lol)

I just think it's really cheap to market yourself as the 'all-american girl', and then turn into the leather-clad skanky girl just to sell records.

That, and she supports PETA.......and not the one for the eating of tasty animals, either. I think it's hilarious that certain Texas radio stations won't even play her.

I acutally like that song... i don't see whats wrong with the violence, if a guy cheats on his girlfriend, i wouldn't see why what she is doing would be wrong

this is why I normally don't do this . . . this, and other people's responses, are not answers to my question. Obviously it is just a song . . . I was asking more of the politcal/ press related backlash if a guy sang something similar. Geesh, people.

Wasn't it the Dixie Chicks that did a song about killing an abuser? If that song and the video didn't create a backlash nothing will. I haven't heard the Underwood song yet, but definately there is a double standard. So what, live with it.

Someone needs to teach her how to dress first. Those outfits she wears are HIDIOUS!

Second, who is Kerry Underwood?

you mean Carrie Underoos? The Brittany Spears of Country Music.

Yea, it's ok to sing a song about comitting a felony just because you are such a loser chick that you can't satisfy your man and keep him in your bed. I mean, the first amendment protects her doesn't it?

Again, just a question. Did you read the part where it said, "I like the song". . . . AGAIN, it was more about the double standard between genders in pop culture and how people felt. Chill out with the harsh tone - puh - lease.

Not sure about the first amendment part (I think people view that a little too loosely) but yeah . . .
