One was also a coach at a school.

Three Captains were lost and it had been like 38 years since Charleston

had a firefighter lost in action.

I have not seen the usual smoke from the Fire Academy where they train

for buildings and planes and the like. Guess classes are closed.

We are not happy here right now.

Wino you know wrote:These guardian angels went into a burning building, got several people out, and lost their own lives doing so.
ALL of them, and every firefighter everywhere, is truly a heroes hero.
May their souls forever rest in peace and may God grant strength and perseverence to their families.
Said perfectly, Garry.

I'm having a really hard time understanding this. I spent 7 years as a firefighter on the left coast and 6 years doing it here in SC. I'll tell you, nothing has ever affected me as much as a FF's memorial service. Even though I've been out of it for a few years, every one of those men and women in the fire service are still my family. Originally, I thought maybe it was a building collapse that cost them their lives, but current reports say that all the crews perished from some combination of burns and smoke inhalation. What I do know, from experience, is that there was never a second thought for any of them. They were doing what they loved to do, and thoughts of being a hero were the last things on any of their minds. Anybody can be trained to do the job, but those that take it as their calling are, truely, special. My thoughts and prayers go out to not only these brave men, but their families, community, and fellow firefighters that will continue answering the call. Sad. So sad.
Live. Love. Laugh. Repeat.
