Things I miss are mainly from my hometown of Buffalo:

Ziggy's burritos (best hot sauce ever)
Ted's charcoal grilled hot dogs with mustard, relish & pickle spears
Duff's Buffalo wings
Steamed clams from the hole in the wall places on the west side that are likely all gone cuz the "old neighborhood" was really bad then, 20 years ago
Bocce's pizza

Otherwise, I just wish I could get a decent plate of linguine with clams in spicy marinara sauce - good thnic food is hard to find here in West Michigan. Bland is the prevailing flavor here!

Oh yeah - decent Thai food & real sushi. Not the all u can eat buffet sushi that all tastes the same and there's no sea urchin or other fun stuff.

And I miss teh amazing Greek food of Detroit & Chicago's Greektowns!

And I miss real Dim Sum like they would do on Sundays in Montreal.

I also miss the amazing markets they had in Buffalo. Please, God, bring Wegman's to Grand Rapids.

my daughter's bf has a 90yo grandmother who makes this for holidays. Nobody but her eats it. But it is a family tradition that you must eat it on your 18th b'day. She also makes something called glog to drink on Christmas/New Years that my daughter says knocks you on your butt.
I make glogg (there should be two little dots over the "o" but I'm not going to put the effort into figuring out how to make that, lol). It does knock you on your butt if made right.

Here's one decent recipe for it. I often add brandy to replace the aquavit, by the way. Glogg Recipe

I am originally from Pittsburgh and miss O fries and Maio's cheesecake. I live in the Philthadelphia region and don't get the Tastykake/cheesesteak thing.

Here's a vegemite sammy for you. :D

I am thinking about you and your Pac Flt buds as I sit here and enjoy a San Miguel beer. It might not be the very best beer in the world, but oh if this brew could talk... the stories it would tell. (Probably the only beer in the world that has been consumed warm more often than cold.)
Tip of the hat to all who have appreciated a warm beer in a tropical zone, especially in the service of their country.

No, I really DIDN'T know.
When I was in Australia, about all I had was "Shrimp on the barbie" and 4X beer. And whatever else the natives fed me. I was so in awe, they could've given me sandstones and I would've probably eaten them. :-?

I've had lots of San Miguel, but definately not my favorite. It would "go through me" very rapidly, if you get my drift.
And sorry, I don't do warm beer, anywhere, anytime.
But you're right about one thing-if that beer could talk, I'd be in jail.

You bet!! Mmmmmm ---
Blueberry Grunt! Here's a recipe!

Ingredients:
Sauce:
4 cups wild fresh or frozen blueberries
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp cinnamon
3/4 cup sugar
1 Tbsp lemon juice
1/2 cup water

Dumplings:
2 cups flour
4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 Tbsp sugar
2 Tbsp butter or shortening
milk

Instructions:
Heat berries, spices, sugar, lemon juice, and water in a skillet; boil gently until well blended and slightly cooked down. Sift flour, baking powder, salt and sugar into a bowl. Cut in butter and add enough milk to make a soft biscuit dough. Drop by spoonfuls into hot berry sauce. Cover tightly with a lid and SIMMER for 15 minutes (no peeking!) The dumplings should be puffed and well cooked through. Transfer cooked dumplings to serving dish. Ladle sauce over top; top with (unwhipped) whipping cream.

Thanks, Cate. We'll be sure to try that one-it sounds delicious. For some reason, blueberries, which are usually pretty expensive here, are selling for a bit less than rasberries & blackberries these days. Which is surprising, since blackberries are actually grown here.

And speaking of apples, my father was telling me when he was about 11 or 12, Babe Ruth (yes, THE Babe Ruth) was walking down the streets of Bridgewater when he came upon a few young boys playing stickball. The "Bambino" asked the boys where he might be able to find a vendor who sold those delicioius apples he'd heard so much about.
Of course, the boys immediately halted their game and happily escorted the Babe to one of the local greengrocers.

One of the boys was one Revere Paul Joseph-father of yours truly. 8)
