_Jimmy Buffett Gets Own Day_
(http://writepittsburgh.blogspot.com/200 ... n-day.html)

Every dog has his day, and now so does Jimmy Buffett – at least in
Pennsylvania.

House Resolution No. 333, passed yesterday in the Pennsylvania House of
Representatives, designated June 23, 2007 as “Jimmy Buffet Day.”

The entertainer will be performing at the Post-Gazette Pavilion in
Burgettstown that day in a sold-out concert.

According to the resolution “Jimmy Buffett is a world-class entertainer
known for his support of charitable and environmental causes throughout the
region,” “more than 1,500 active Pennsylvania Parrot Heads (as some of his
supports are known) join all citizens of this Commonwealth in Welcoming Jimmy
Buffett …”

The resolution also credits Buffett for the charitable works committed by
his fans, as groups such as the Alzheimer’s Association, Animal Friends and
Make-A-Wish Foundation have all benefited from their activities.

There's an old quote, I think it's Mae West, about how, if an old whore stays around long enough, she becomes respectable. :D :D :o :o Makes me think there's a parrotthead in the PA state senate.

or a State Representative who wants the Parrot Head nation's vote?

Either way, that is going to be my reason to drink tomorrow!

Here is the actual resolution:

Of course, they didn't even spell his name right

While this is "great," the fact that our government wastes their time and my money passing these stupid resolutions yanks my chain.

crack government work. I like how they alternate the number of "t"s on the end to keep you guessing.

Maybe they were listening to the Buffett Buffet and got confused.

Woooo. That's right up there with passing a bill to allow people to buy beer by the 6 pack instead of by the case here in Pennsyltucky. Actually, I think the Legislature is still trying to make up to the voters for giving themselves an illegal pay raise.

Before I hoist that Yuengling, I build myself a base with a half dozen or so Mrs. T's Pierogies! maybe use the Yuengling to chase down a shot of boilo!

One of the benchmark activities that you do in law school is called Moot Court. Basically, the professors put together a packet of information and you have to draft an appellate brief and argue it to judges on an appellate panel.

I went to Pitt Law School, and the professor that put together our Moot Court was from Louisiana. I am looking at my appellate brief right now, and it is captioned as follows:

IN THE SUPREME COURT OF PENNSALTUCKY

I remember when we were doing this that we were p.o.ed that she made us argue and set our case in the "Supreme Court of Pennsaltucky," because this is the seminal document you produce in law school, and you generally use it as a writing sample. Nothing like giving a writing sample to Mr. Big Shot Hiring Partner at BIGLAW White Shoes Firm, and the term "Pennsaltucky" is plastered all over it.

I remember that too, althought I think that time it was a proclaimation from the Governor? I may be wrong. I often am.

Jim, I'm pretty sure you're right about the governor declaring it last time.
