Blocking websites

When I blocked Myspace last year, I literally thought people were going to quit over it, that's how addicted some of the callcenter people were to it. I was dubbed 'internet furor' over that one.

I know, it's not like I wanted to save myself the extra week's worth of work of cleaning up all of the damned videos and music files and pictures that get saved to my file servers from all of the myspace sites, and slow down the drive space eaten up from all of the copy and pasted pictures that get sent to groups of people, then forwarded on and on and on.....

Heaven forbid I get to go home at night....

Roundabout. Since we deal with media files and whatnot as an industry, I can't just block everything from being saved in server home drives, or copied out to public drives, or do a mass purge of all mp3 or avi files on a server. If one person finds one amusing 3 mb video they want to send to their 15 buddies through email, then 10 of them decide to save it in their home drives, then 4 of them decide to put it out on various public drives so other departments can access them, etc etc etc. You see where I'm going with this. Then I have to waste time going through files, determining if they're work related or not, going through everyone's home drives, deleting out the things that are not work related, sending the necessary 'you can't do this' emails, and so on. With the number of servers, email, machines, and users we have, this takes days if it's a slower day and a bunch of people decide to have a 'let's find the funniest video/wav/picture contest.

Anybody have any tricks around a blocked website?

I know two people who lost their jobs because they used tricks to get around a blocked website.... Probably not worth it....

Yeah, I don't think my job is worth it...I'll just have to keep loading up the iPod and listening to that instead.
