So. Lake Tahoe Area Wildfire

Post by Tequila Revenge »

One of America’s National treasures is on fire this afternoon. The Angora Fire in South Lake Tahoe on the California side started around 2:00 PM this afternoon. So far over the fire has consumed over 500 acres and between 50 and 100 homes. God only knows about the wildlife. This situation is very serious due to high winds and a drought rainfall year.

FYI Wayne-

From Hwy 50, bottom of Echo Summit over the hill to Fallen Leaf Lake, and the head of the fire is heading towards Tahoe Keys. It's really pretty serious.

Thanks for the FP

Here in CO, too...

GARFIELD COUNTY – The Bureau of Land Management says firefighters remained on the scene of a wildfire west of Glenwood Springs Saturday, despite the fact the fire was 100 percent contained Friday.

Firefighters will continue to mop-up and patrol the fire until it is declared out.

Command of the 1,240-acre fire was scheduled to be transferred to local firefighters Sunday.

All evacuations for the Canyon Creek Road area ended at 7 p.m. Friday. Residents were able to return home for the first time since Monday when the fire flared up.

The fire started Sunday after a lightning strike. No homes were damaged.

So far the fire has cost $1.6 million.

It's pretty ugly, isn't it....and to not have air tanker support is devastating. 500 homes in the path of the fire right now.

My friend has a house in the Keys. :-?

750+ acres was what I heard...humidity is up so they are hoping ground crews can gain some headway. Still out of control though. 165 homes burned so far. :-?

Local hotels are putting up evacuees and pets for free...that is way cool.

Sooooooo sad. The video from the news is overwhelming. Those trees are so dry it's like fighting a grass fire, except the grass is 75 feet tall.

It is unbelieveable. Over 2500 acres now and they are saying it's probably well over 300 homes, they can't get in to get a good count.

Some of the firefighters have lost their own homes. :( Over 650 personnel on scene so far.
:-?

WoooHooo! It looks like the tankers are flying again! Good luck to Dave, who was flying lead yesterday.....stay safe...and kick that fire's ass!

And 450 to 600 on the way. I don't like to throw rocks during times like these, but do have to wonder why the required response is taking so long?
