Re: A bad day?
"though the moment the window broke still haunts him, Fogg feels lucky that this shredded shirt and a few cuts and bruises are the only signs of the freak accident. "
Not sure if it's a bad day, or a very lucky day.

Cooking is like love. It should be entered into with abandon or not at all..

That is called Rapid Decompression.... Usually when that occurs, a loud boom associated with fog occurs in the aircraft alerting the crew of a loss of cabin pressurization.
Usually below FL100 (10,000ft) people can breathe without oxygen, however with the oxygen diminishing rapidly above that level, the only way to survive is to have the supplemental oxygen on...

All aircrew members are trained in Rapid D In Flight Emergencies and we have an associated bold face which we have to have memorized .... Oxygen, On - 100% ALL Thus meaning that EVERYONE onboard must have oxygen on before the problem/damaged can be assessed. In the case of loadmasters on cargo aircraft (ie C130J - my aircraft) we have our oxygen in the back of the aircraft... if the paratroop doors/ramp/cargo door open (Rapid D), we have to put on a harness BEFORE putting on our oxygen....we can't go to the back of the plane without a harness on. There are 3 harness onboard our aircraft... one on the deck, one upfront (cargo compartment) and one in the back of the cargo compartment and they all MUST be preflighted (fitted to ourselves and in the right location on the plane) when we get to that point in the checklist

Apparently it is rather rare for this to happen, and it takes a fairly massive hole to even begin to s*** people out of it:

But I'd hate to be the one to find out the hard way.

it would take a bigger hole for some of us than others..TropicalTroubador wrote:Apparently it is rather rare for this to happen, and it takes a fairly massive hole to even begin to s*** people out of it:
