we always watch a professional display and I'm guilty of letting my kids buy them when we're out of state and shooting some off on the beach in obx. (not anymore). And when I let them I worry that I"m being a stupid parent. I have two boys. When I don't let them I suspect they have ways of doing it on their own.

I love a profesional display...with music.... but havent been in several years.... There is one in town tomorrow night.... but my patience for people letting their kids run all over has offset the need to see them.

When I lived on the beach I never missed.......didnt have far to go!

In the past I have bought and shot my own, but it is soooo dry here this year I am going to leave it to the pros.

Back in the 70's as a kid all the neighborhood pyromaniac Dad's would get together and put on a show in the neighborhood. And of course us kids always found access to enough explosives to have our own unsupervised fun. It's a wonder we didn't blow off a few fingers.

When I was teenager I had a secret spot out on the beach where we'd gather to watch the fireworks in Virginia Beach. Summer, some beer and my high school sweetie on darkened corner of the beach. We made our own fireworks. :D

After I moved to the D.C. area, I started going down to the mall to spend all day partying with the concerts and then watch the fireworks exploding over the monuments downtown. VERY cool backdrop for fireworks. Do it some year if you get the chance. This was back in the days when the Beach Boys were the annual big concert draw on the mall every year.

Nowadays with two young kids of my own, we usually catch the local county fireworks display. All our county allows legally are sparklers.

we have friends who live on the water in murrells inlet so we will get some of our own and watch the display that the town puts on.

We usually watch them in a professional display because there's no place close where it's legal to set them off ourselves---although that's what hubby would like to do. You know. The man thing. Blowing stuff up.

I grew up with five older brothers, four of whom were wild and crazy preacher's kids (the first became missionary), so we always had our own firecrackers. The joke is Dad would always say "let Bruce light them" (second son, the wildest) since he was the most expendable.

We also always watched the Pops on TV or whatever it's called at the nation's Capitol, and we drove to the local professional display.

So my answer is all three, but since I didn't have a choice, I put professional display, because that's the one we never miss, if we skip the others. This year, I'm organizing a Skate Park Rally of rollerbladers and skateboarders AT the local display, with a band and all, so it's going to be pure pandemonium.

My son's friend's parents are taking him to the Capitol this year, so that will be awesome... I get very teary-eyed at patriotic music, so I really love to watch that one on TV and see the people singing along and looking so patriotic.

That is my favorite part. We go to a big park and LET the kids run around and have gobs of fun and eat tons of junk food, get their faces painted, etc. We always buy glowy necklaces for them, load them up with sugar, and ooohhhh an ahhhhh when the fireworks finally start.

Every year we grill some steaks & sit on our front porch and watch the fireworks going off from Reagan Park, about six blocks away.

(Yes, you CAN walk six blocks here and still be in the city limits).

not by much, however

Even though it's pretty close, I only watch the Macy's fireworks on TV, it's too crowded to come into NYC to see it in person.

The last live fireworks show I saw was the last time I went to a Buffett show at Nissan, 2003. Buffett's show was Saturday July 5, on the 4th we took a boat ride on the Potomac and saw the fireworks in Washington, DC.

We do both....but just the legal stuff....roman candles, stuff like that....we can watch the city fireworks display from our front yard....and for a small town, it's pretty good!
I love the 4th of July!

I'm a big fan of professional displays, but you have to be there in person.

We usually go to my in-laws, where they'll go to New Mexico and get the illegal stuff :o and shoot them off. It's nice. Sometimes, we'll go to the local rodeo grounds and watch the fireworks show there.

My favorite memories of fireworks is on Martha's Vineyard, the Oak Bluffs Fire Department has a big show at the end of the summer. Good times when I was a kid.

So I guess my answer is a little of both A & B.

I love them to the point of idiocy, but not enough to get blinded or burned setting them off. Strictly leave it to the pros!

Wow! I was at that show and took a boat ride on the Potomac for the fireworks too. Wonder if we were on the same one?

Was Jim Morris and The Big Bamboo Band on the boat you were on? That's the one I was on.

Unfortunately, no. The only entertainment was me, fueled by too many (or not enough) $4 beers. Damn, and I was this close to achieving a BN 6 Degrees of Seperation.
