Warren Zevon
Anybody on here lucky enough to have seen Warren Zevon in concert before he died?
I've justed gotten into Zevon in the last few months while I was in Australia, and now I'm really, really into it. He's a storytelling kind of songwriter, like JB.

a really long time ago, when Richard Marx was big. Zevon opened, Marx headlined. It was funny to watch the crowds: older people for the opener, leaving and meeting teenieboppers in the parking lot coming for the second half of the show.. They could have sold the seats for the show twice.jimsig wrote:Every time he played Boston I seemed to already have plans. But did catch him do a few songs at a free show that a local radio station put on one day at South Station in Boston. It was just him. What I saw was great.

I noticed that too ! Paul is smarter than I gave him credit for before !ToplessRideFL wrote:I wasnt.... but in a sorta related twist.... Luke Wilson was on Letterman the other night... and his intro Music was Wearwolves of London. Considering he wasnt there to promote Hoot... I thought that was way cool of Paul Schaefer!

He's a go-to guy, musically....I shouldn't have been surprised that he put Luke and "Werewolves of London" together !

Tho, Warren was a better writer when he was up against something. Mohammed's Radio and Lawyers, Guns, and Money; and the "Keep Me In Your Heart"

Letterman is/was a big Zevon fan. Warren is the only person ever to be the only guest on a show. After he announced that he was dying, Dave had him on as the only guest. Watch the show enough and you will catch lots of Zevon stuff going in and out of commercial. I have caught Wearwolves many times, but also Mohammed's Radio, Laywers, Guns..., and other stuff.ToplessRideFL wrote:I wasnt.... but in a sorta related twist.... The first time I saw Warren Zevon was when he opened for the Grateful Dead in 78 or 79. After that I made it a point to see him whenever he came anywhere near where I was living. I probably saw him 12 or 15 times prior to his passing. One of my favorite shows that I saw he had a band of sorts with him, the bass player was pretty good. His name was Timothy B. Schmidt. Warren Zevon was a great songwriter, a fun performer and an interesting to guy to talk to.
If you like his music, check out his son, Jordan Zevon who has been on Letterman as well. He isn't the songwriter that he father was, although he is working on it, but his voice and sense of music is very similar to his father's.
