Who's going to see ORDER OF THE PHOENIX?

Post by bravedave »

We are buying tickets in advance for my daughter and some friends to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix this Wednesday. (10PM showing)
Is anybody else attending on opening day?

Anybody going to the IMAX show? (Closest IMAX is a few hours away for us.)

half the parents in Mrs. Nelson's class think that Harry Potter promotes Satanism, and are boycotting the fieldtrip, so you should be ok.. :D

i live bout 35 mins away from the closest IMAX, So this is another movie I will see on that... Spidy 3 was cool on it, but this one has the last 20 minutes in 3D so that should be worth the 12 bucks to get in for it.

Me! Yep. Me, my dad, and my sis-in-law are such huge dorks when it come to the potter series, so we're dragging the rest of the family to the midnight Imax showing Tuesday night. Then we're seeing it the next night again with a bunch of friends who can't make it to the midnight showing.

Then we'll be at borders the following week at midnight for the release of the book. :D :D

I just got home- it was really bad. Like I don't know if I'll go see the next one at all, but I know I absolutely will not go on a school night again bad.

It was like watching notes of the Cliffs Notes.

Casting was great, cinematography was great, plot was neither close enough to nor divergent enough from the book to make a good movie.

I just hope the book is less of a disappointment!

People never line up for movies in my little hole-in-the-wall of a town. Well, in the newspaper this morning, there's a story that people waited overnight to get in to see it. :o Local movie theatre has ONE showing, at 8-ish.

I haven't read the books. My nine year old just started the first one. We'll just get the movie set on DVD :D

I did the same thing. The husband and I went to a midnight showing. I was very impressed with the casting. Sets were beautiful as always. Some minor plot changes got on my nerves, but that's Hollywood for you.

We would be going to a midnight release party for the book; but we'll kinda be in Chicago seeing Jimmy on the 21st

I thought it was really good...haven't read the book yet, though. I was excited about Harry's first kiss! It was so cute.

I'll probably get there sometime this weekend.

And I'm letting Amazon deliver me a copy of Deathly Hallows. I got better things to do at midnight than stand in line at a bookstore. Like drink. Or sleep.

Lord of The Rings, Yoda Vs the Emperor. Been there done that.

Went to the movie tonight, gave it 2 and half stars out of 4. Slightly weak for the same whoa is me I am Harry Potter boo hoo routine.
But at least there was a script going into the shoot. Unlike that last Pirates of the Crapibean which is well known that shooting began without a script. And it showed.

So was the movie confusing if you haven't read the books? It seems like it would be.

Saw it last night.

Doesn't hold a candle to the book, but, with the possible exception of the first movie, none of them do.

Don't get me wrong, it is enjoyable as a movie. However:

SPOILERS:
They didn't do justice at all to the Department of Mysteries.
They didn't do justice at all to the departure of Fred & George
The relationship between Harry & Cho was truncated beyond recognition.
It was unfair to write Marietta out, and put the blame on Cho.
Ginny was barely in the movie.
Professor McGonagall disappeared halfway through the movie
The storyline of the Centaurs...ignored
Grawp....well, the story wasn't quite right. He was tamed too easily.

I realize they have time constraints, but the movie is not even CLOSE to the book. It has the same beginning and ending, but they took a totally different route to get there.

I agree! I was so upset I didn't get to see more of #1 & #2. I was so looking forward to seeing them on the big screen. I wasn't too happy with how they handled the Cho/DA betrayal either. Another half hour of movie would have been more than enough time to put some of those things back in.

If you can separate the movie from the book, the movie was pretty good. The acting was great, and the scenery was neat at times. Though if you even attempt to tie the movie to the book, the timeline is completely off, and so much is missing. I had hopes of it at least loosely sticking to the timeline right up to
Trelawney being ousted before Christmas and before Snape even started Occlumency lessons.
At that point, the eight people who were with me all looked at each other with the 'what the hell?' look on our faces.

Figure I'll go this weekend.

I am re-reading the series before seeing the movie, getting the last book.

I'll probably finish the last 500 pages of "Order of the Phoenix" tonight.

especially when standing in line means standing there with kids running around and acting like idiots. If I want to be surrounded by 12 yo's, I can...

no one said you couldn't bring a flask and put stuff in your coffee while you wait in line.. hmmmm

Technically, the flask could very well be in keeping with a costume. (yes, the borders are having a costume contest as well).
