So you want to know how active your team will be with a good free-agency market coming up in three months? Here's a chart of how much cap space each team was due to have next spring as of Saturday, along with how many players each team has under contract:
Team Signed Players 2008 cap room
1. Tennessee 39 $40.85 million
2. San Diego 44 $33.03 million
3. Jacksonville 43 $32.69 million
4. Buffalo 49 $32.05 million
5. New Orleans 39 $31.69 million
6. Cincinnati 48 $31.45 million
7. San Francisco 48 $30.91 million
8. Cleveland 42 $30.31 million
9. Arizona 34 $30.27 million
10.N.Y. Jets 45 $27.72 million
11.Oakland 40 $25.98 million
12.Tampa Bay 48 $25.90 million
13.Miami 48 $25.56 million
14.N.Y. Giants 49 $24.47 million
15.Detroit 42 $23.50 million
16.Houston 43 $22.91 million
17.Dallas 40 $20.61 million
18.Kansas City 44 $20.27 million
19.Chicago 52 $19.80 million
20.Pittsburgh 43 $18.61 million
21.Green Bay 48 $18.37 million
22.Philadelphia 49 $17.17 million
23.Denver 49 $16.77 million
24.Minnesota 49 $14.88 million
25.New England 41 $10.93 million
26.St. Louis 45 $9.61 million
27.Seattle 44 $9.55 million
28.Indianapolis 48 $8.49 million
29.Carolina 35 $6.05 million
30.Atlanta 52 $5.79 million*
31.Baltimore 42 $5.00 million
32.Washington 45 -$20.72 million
* Not including unspecified potential rebate from contested return of Michael Vick's pro-rated signing bonus.
And yes, you read it right. The Washington Redskins are $20 million over the projected '08 cap, a number that will be reduced once the 'Skins convert some bonuses assigned to the '08 cap (including a hefty one paid to tight end Chris Cooley) to signing bonuses, which can be pro-rated over the life of the contract.

you guys don't like lineman or linebacks or safetys do you?aeroparrot wrote:Valid point but Westbrook can't do it all by himself. regarding your question about QB's this season.
They are horrible . . .
in no particular order . . . these are the only QBs I feel worth a sh*t:
1. Manning
2. Favre
3. Romo
4. Anderson
5. Garrard
6. Brady
7. Hasslebeck
8. Garrard
9. Roethlisberger (sp?) . . .
10. Maybe Garcia . . .
I believe that over 70 QB's played this season . . . and unless I am forgetting someone on that above list there are 20 teams who have sh*t QB's . . .
but every other skill position is better, overall, then from the early 80's . . . 70's . . . IMO
I think the top 30 most valuable players (players I would build a team around) fall under those positions . . . rb's and qb's don't even scratch the surface . . . (perhaps . . . LT, Manning, and Brady . . . but not really even then . . .)
the hit and run is as good as any religion around this time of year . . .

If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
Life is short, live long!!
I'd rather be a wiseass than a dumbass.

Who's available? I know one high profile free agent (or would be at the end of the season) is already off the market. I think the Colts have already signed Saunders (sp??) -- the safety.drunkpirate66 wrote:very interesting off season indeed . . . If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
Life is short, live long!!
I'd rather be a wiseass than a dumbass.

Makes almost any team a contender.

I sorta agree with dp66. I think the most important single position in football is the middle linebacker. A guy like Brian Urlacher (sp?) that can pass rush and stop the run as well as drop back in coverage and control the D as a whole is a huge plus. A shutdown corner to counter a top wideout like a TO or Marvin Harrison or the like is pretty good too.
That being said, I think having solid O-Lines and D-Lines as a unit is even more valuable. Look at all the Broncos teams of the past ten years that have had several 1000 yard rushers. If you don't have a franchise QB having a good running game is key. On the other side, being able to stop the run and put pressure on the opposing QB is also great!
Given guys like Brady, LDT, Manning, Farve, Moss etc. are special players that you'd be hard pressed to pass up, but if you don't have that look to the lines.

Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar

I thought he was talking about game breakers...guys when you get the ball in there hand can do something with it...QB position excluded!!!......i'm not debating offensive line....any QB is as good as his line.....and i already said i'd rather start with a dominant defense!!!...and i believe now a days a great lock down corner is the most important position due to all the pass happy offenses and especially in the AFC east with the Patriotsjonesbeach10 wrote:I sorta agree with dp66. Don't get it . . . last night I said that I would always build a team around linemen (defensive . . .), linebackers, and safties . . . wouldn't you need these guys for a "dominant defense"?

yes i don't disagree.....but i think finding a lock down corner is a lot harder to find..and if he's out there you start there...but yes a pass rush and a great LB especially one that can cover is a key!!!...and it does take the pressure off the corners and the safeties if you can put pressure on the QB!!....I was referring originally from Ravi saying McNab didn't have anyone to throw to....and i said he has Westbrook who can line up in different positions and is a threat...just get him the ball!!!drunkpirate66 wrote:TommyBahama wrote:I thought he was talking about game breakers...guys when you get the ball in there hand can do something with it...QB position excluded!!!......i'm not debating offensive line....any QB is as good as his line.....and i already said i'd rather start with a dominant defense!!!...and i believe now a days a great lock down corner is the most important position due to all the pass happy offenses and especially in the AFC east with the Patriotsjonesbeach10 wrote:I sorta agree with dp66. And unlike other running backs who put up big numbers (Willie Parker) or others who should but don't (Reggie Bush) the thing that makes Westbrook standout is that he blocks for his QB!TommyBahama wrote:yes i don't disagree.....but i think finding a lock down corner is a lot harder to find..and if he's out there you start there...but yes a pass rush and a great LB especially one that can cover is a key!!!...and it does take the pressure off the corners and the safeties if you can put pressure on the QB!!....I was referring originally from Ravi saying McNab didn't have anyone to throw to....and i said he has Westbrook who can line up in different positions and is a threat...just get him the ball!!!drunkpirate66 wrote:TommyBahama wrote:I thought he was talking about game breakers...guys when you get the ball in there hand can do something with it...QB position excluded!!!......i'm not debating offensive line....any QB is as good as his line.....and i already said i'd rather start with a dominant defense!!!...and i believe now a days a great lock down corner is the most important position due to all the pass happy offenses and especially in the AFC east with the Patriotsjonesbeach10 wrote:I sorta agree with dp66.
