WHAT???? (Caution, religious(?) content)

Excuse me?? I'm sorry, my Catholic friends, but this is simply too much.... I was raised Catholic, but attitudes like this are a large part of why I am no longer a Catholic......
Vatican: Non-Catholics 'wounded' by not recognizing pope

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) -- The Vatican on Tuesday said Christian denominations outside the Roman Catholic Church were not full churches of Jesus Christ.

The Vatican said other churches are "wounded" since they do not recognize the primacy of the pope.

A 16-page document, prepared by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, which Pope Benedict used to head, described Christian Orthodox churches as true churches, but suffering from a "wound" since they do not recognize the primacy of the Pope.

But the document said the "wound is still more profound" in the Protestant denominations -- a view likely to further complicate relations with Protestants.

"Despite the fact that this teaching has created no little distress ... it is nevertheless difficult to see how the title of 'Church' could possibly be attributed to them," it said...

...The document said the Council's opening to other faiths recognized there were "many elements of sanctification and truth" in other Christian denominations, but stressed only Catholicism had all the elements to be Christ's Church fully.
I don't want to start a firestorm, but this caught my eye in the news, and it astounds me how one denomination can be so incredibly arrogant.... :-?

I liked Pope John Paul II. This pope scares me..... :-?

Let's discuss, but if we can PLEASE leave out insults and name calling....

Mods, if this thread gets out of hand, please kill it. Thanks.

Where's Frankie when we need him to tell us that Catholocism makes baby Jesus cry or Garry to say "Horsh*tt and Radishes!!"

The first commandment...
Catechism of the Catholic Church wrote: I. "You shall worship the Lord your God and Him only shall you serve"
I think the "primacy of the pope" is borderline abuse of this commandment.

But, that's just me...

Sharkfyn sent this to me earlier today - the main reason I got myself confirmed at 30 was because of Vatican II and the topics in this article just has us going backwards. Of the people quoted for this is a reverand I wish was at a church near me 'cuz I'd go to hers in a heartbeat! This quote says it all!
The Rev. Sara MacVane, of the Anglican Centre in Rome, said that although the document contains nothing new, "I don't know what motivated it at this time."

"But it's important always to point out that there's the official position and there's the huge amount of friendship and fellowship and worshipping together that goes on at all levels, certainly between Anglicans and Catholics and all the other groups and Catholics," she said.

Excellent point!! It's not individual Catholics or even parishes I take issue with here, but the official position of the Pope and the Vatican.

That pretty much sums it up for me, with regards to ANY 'religious' human person. :)

Yep, and the religious folks who are good people also tend to be the most humble, in my not so humble opinion. :P

Mother Theresa..... although she and I would probably not have seen eye to eye on "religion", I think she was one of the most humble and good people ever to walk the planet.....

Ghandi... same opinion....

I agree with everything you all have said. I never have quite grasped the concept of the Catholic Church and it's rules and regulations. I believe in God and I know that I am saved. I don't need to follow any quirky rules to get to heaven. I need to ask for forgiveness and believe...that's what I believe and I am saddened by the Vatican's comments.

Every Sunday, our Methodist congregation recites the Apostle's Creed, saying "We believe in one Catholic and apostolic Church." There's an asterisk by the catholic, and down below it says it means "whole." So, the protestants, or at least most of them, are saying there is one church and it is Catholic. hmmmmmm....

I disagree with the statement that the Protestant church is wounded by not accepting or recognizing the Pope as their leader. I'm just saying that the Protestants say that we are all one church. Too bad it doesn't come back to us that way from the Catholics.

Most copies of the Apostolic Creed read "one catholic and apostolic church" with catholic (non-capitalized) just as you described, CG: "whole"...

the definition (non-capitalized):
cath·o·lic /ˈkæθəlɪk, ˈkæθlɪk/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[kath-uh-lik, kath-lik] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–adjective
1. broad or wide-ranging in tastes, interests, or the like; having sympathies with all; broad-minded; liberal.
2. universal in extent; involving all; of interest to all.
3. pertaining to the whole Christian body or church.

There is an inherit and immense danger in believing that you are the only one who gets it right. This is the opinion of men and has no Biblical basis. It is a shame that Pope Benedict XVI is tearing down the ecumenical relationships that Pope John Paul II built in his tenure. This is the direction that the Roman Catholic Church is heading, more conservative and more orthodox.

Um, not to add to this firestorm but John Paul did give Bernard Law a free pass after 25 years of child rape and child rape cover up was brought forth and has since caused over 50 billion dollars in law suits. Some say he was not in his right mind because of his age and ailments but this act of arrogance cannot be ignored . . . my opinion.
the hit and run is as good as any religion around this time of year . . .

If you all want to be scared by religion, I highly suggest watching the movie JESUS CAMP. Its about this crazy whacked out Evangelical Christians. Do not let your kids see this movie, even though its only rated pg-13. You do not want them getting any of the wrong ideas.

I was born and raised Catholic. Though I do not agree with many of the stuff the church has done in the past- especially the treatment of letting priests off very easily for the sexual abuse they did. Simply put, if you don't like whats going on, don't go to church. I think I have been once in the past 15 years, and I only did that to make my mother and grandmother happy.

God is suppose to be everywhere, you dont have to go to a certain place to worship him, or do it in any certain way.
