I was after her time, but her name was always carried in terms of respect and admiration from everyone who spoke of her. I've heard an old quip that says the only people smart enough to run for President are smart enough to know better. She never ran, i.e. she never asked. She took what was handed to her and did amazing things with it, taking the time (and cojones) to be something more than a photo op.

saw this this morning. dammit. Most male politicians are where they are because they have a brighter, more astute woman in the wings. LBJ may have been a ba$tard, but he was lucky to have Lady Bird in his life.

We're a bit diminished with her passing. Sail on.
