Ohio State won their Big Ten Title Georgia did not , plus they lost to South CarolinaBahamaBreeze wrote:The coaches' poll has screwed us. They jumped LSU AND Ok over us. We'll be in the Sugar, with Hawaii. Great that Hawaii went undefeated, but of all the teams playing in BCS bowls, this team is the lesser team. Probably won't do anything but keep us the same or move us down in the final rankings if we beat them.
I don't understand how OSU moved to #1. I DO get it since they were 3rd last week, 1 and 2 lost, but we were 4th, should have moved to 2. OSU hasn't played in 2 weeks, played only 2 teams that were ranked thru the season, one of whom wasn't ranked when they played them and OSU was beaten by them. They didn't play a champ game.
Others have gotten in without winning their conference. Why start it now with us? LSU has been #1 twice this year, and lost both times. They get a 3rd chance. They played the #14 team, OK played #1. Why should OK be ranked below them?
Just a big mess but we got screwed as I figured we would.
Oh well....it was a fun year!

Acutually, you weren't locked into the Sugar. Due to the circumstances the Rose Bowl DIDN'T have to take a Big Ten team and the Sugar Bowl DIDN'T have to take an SEC team. The Sugar Bowl took you because of $$$$ !!BahamaBreeze wrote:But it doesn't say you have to win or even play in your conference game.Dr.Corona wrote:The Dawgs DID NOT get screwed. I just don't get it.....the Dawgs got screwed. Although back in Sept, I would have never dreamed that we were that close to the title game.
Now, what WOULD have made this interesting and my argument b.s. would have been if Georgia would have played and BEAT LSU in the regular season but still been in the same boat in the SEC East and lost out because of a tie-breaker. In that case, I still think the BCS would have plugged in Oklahoma over Georgia because Okie WAS a conference champ.
And how do go from #4 and have 3 teams jump you and end up at #5? Yet OHS who did not play, was #3 and moved to #1...I guess I don't understand.
In 2003 OK got CRUSHED in their title game and still played for the national title. (Not that UGA should be playing in the NC). I think it is all politics.
Actually I wish we would have gone to the Rose bowl and played USC, but we are locked to Sugar.
And I don't understand how you can on one hand say Georgia got screwed and on the other hand acknowledge that UGA shouldn't be playing for the NC.
In simplest terms, the reason Georgia got jumped by 3 teams was because all 3 of those teams played Saturday and BEAT highly touted opponents and ended up with better records.

It wasn't just about $$$$. The bowls like to preserve their traditional invitees due to the location of the bowl games and the proximity of fans (which I guess does come back to $$$).Dr.Corona wrote: Acutually, you weren't locked into the Sugar. I'm not sure what the pecking order was for the bowl games after the title game was selected, but I have a feeling that the Rose got first pick. They could have taken UGA and chose to take Ill instead to preserve the Pac-10/Big-10 matchup. The Sugar then had a pick of any remaining at large teams but chose Georgia because it is an SEC team and the Sugar tried to have an SEC team play there each year.

Since the Rose Bowl lost a "host" school (Big Ten, Ohio State) to the champ. game, they get first pick. The Sugar Bowl lost LSU, but they were rated #2, so they get second pick of a replacement. The Rose Bowl picked Illinois to preserve the Big Ten/PAC Ten tradition. If a bowl loses a host team to the NCG, then such bowl shall select a replacement team from among the automatic-qualifying teams and the at-large teams before any other selections are made. If two bowls lose host teams to the NCG, each bowl will get a replacement pick before any other selections are made. In such case, the bowl losing the No. 1 team gets the first replacement pick, and the bowl losing the No. 2 team gets the second replacement pick. If the Rose Bowl loses both the Big Ten and Pac-10 champions to the NCG, it will receive two replacement picks.

That's what I am pullin' for......Ohio State vs. Georgia!!!!
Let's see the BCS defend THAT one....

OK, I've been away for a few days, but CLEARLY the BCS is a tangled mess.
I have issues to address up and down the line.
I'll post them in separate posts, so that it is easier to respond to each.
I'm also doing this without reading anyone else's posts first, so I apologize if I step on any toes.

LSU.
WHY THE H*** ARE THEY IN THE TITLE GAME?
They lost two games. They entered this past weekend ranked 7th!!!! 2 teams ranked ahead of them lost.....not 5!!!!
This is a case of the people in charge wanting LSU in the game. They wanted it all year. They made LSU the #2 team. And they climbed to #1. And they lost.
Unlike most teams this season, who, when ranked in the top 5 and having lost a game, dropped an AVERAGE of 9 spots in the polls, LSU was moved down by 3 spots. They quickly re-climbed into the title game picture. And LOST AGAIN!!!! Again, only dropped 6 spots. Why? Because they were this season's "chosen team" that was going to be displayed. Now granted they were both close games that they lost. But they LOST.
THEY LOST TO TWO UNRANKED TEAMS.
Let me say that again.
KENTUCKY AND ARKANSAS WERE UNRANKED.
So LSU must've been blowing away every other opponent, right?
Barely beat Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, and South Carolina.
So that means on 7 of 13 weekend this year, they were a good, not great team.
But they were the chosen ones.
To me, this is equal to tossing a coin, calling heads, and having it land tails. So you quickly say, "Best 2 of 3". And it lands tails again. So you say "Best 3 of 5".
LSU had their chance to be the top team TWICE!!!! Let someone more deserving in.

GEORGIA.
They entered the last weekend ranked 4th. They didn't play. TWO TEAMS ranked ahead of them LOST.
HOW THE HELL DO THEY END UP RANKED FIFTH?!?!?!?!?!?!?
That right there should be enough to prove there is corruption in the system.
Georgia did everything they needed to do. And got butt-f****d.
They should be in the big game.

HAWAII.
Only unbeaten team.
I've said for years that NCAA football is much like NASCAR, in that WINNING seems to mean less than it should. In NASCAR you can win the title without ever winning a race. In the NCAA, it happens time and time again....the team with the best record doesn't get a shot. WHY? Because of their schedule.
Is it Hawaii's fault that other teams s***?
Why hold a team responsible for the shortcomings of a totally different program?
It's like saying my restaurant can't win an award because the Chinese place next door serves crappy noodles.
In the last 2 years, Hawaii has beaten nearly ever team it has faced. Every game they have lost, they've been in close games. This year they get over the hump by winning close games and blowouts. They are rewarded with a #10 ranking? No better?
The past two years have included wins against ranked teams. They have had wins vs. teams from the Big Ten and Pac Ten. They face a unique challenge in that they have to travel further for road games than any other team. And they keep winning. But not in an NCAA Championship Game. No...it would be wrong to give a team that does everything right a chance.
THE BCS WILL NEVER BE A LEGITIMATE SYSTEM UNTIL EVERY TEAM GETS AN OPPORTUNITY TO WIN THE TITLE. Otherwise, why do they bother being a D-1 team?

The Buckeyes can lose this game if Wells does not have a decent game and if Todd Boeckman does not play Tressell ball. The defense has to come to play and not give up big plays.

Not fair. There are more than 6 conferences.
The BCS was set up so only about 10 teams will EVER get a shot at the title. Even teams from the 6 "Major" conferences won't ever be given a shot.
See my upcoming rants on Missouri and Kansas.

What if every team in the SEC is so "Good" that the Champion ends up being a 3-loss team, because they beat each other up so much, while the Big-12 and ACC Champs are both unbeaten. Still putting your precious SEC Champ in the title game?z-man wrote:You win the SEC this decade, you should automatically be considered deserving to play in the national championship game.CaptainP wrote: LSU had their chance to be the top team TWICE!!!!
