I got island hopping airfare of $39 each way from aloha air .com. Some were even less $$. Kaua'i on a day-trip sounds daunting. There's just so much worth seeing!

I understand the superferry is also running, and was listed at $5 pp, but I hear there are legal issues, and it doesn't sound dependable to count on that for your transport (time would be an issue, too).

With the current dimise of the ferry, the best way is to fly one of the local airlines over. prices range from $9 to $50 most days. Go airlines has the $9 flights right now. Most are seats for weekends are gone, but weekdays might be better.
Here's there website. OOPS never mine that special ended last week, sorry but here are the web links for the local airlines

for GO
http://www.iflygo.com/.

For Hawaiian
www.HawaiianAirlines.com

For Aloha
www.AlohaAirlines.com

Hope this helps.

While we're at it, I have a few Q's about Oahu, and would REALLY appreciate some help.

We arrive 8/2, midday, and leave 8/5 midday, for the Big Island. We have our 2 kids, 8 & 11, good travellers.

We don't have much time, so we're trying to keep it fairly simple. We're staying at the Waikiki Marriott, and have no plans for a rental car. Are these thoughts viable, based on bus travel time? I have looked at the bus schedules, and frankly I was confused. I've ridden BART, but felt pretty dumb looking at the map on the bus website.

WM to Arizona Memorial, early in the day (maybe going to the swap meet at Aloha Stadium), and returning for the afternoon at the beach. Is there an express bus? Can we walk to AS from Az mem? Will this outing take the entire day?

Bus or cab to Diamond Head? - it looked a little too far to walk, then Hike up Diamond head, and then back again - we'll go early in the morning, maybe on our first morning, so we would still be on Calif time (and the kids never seem to get that vacation means sleeping in....)

Bus/cab/walk to waikiki aquarium? Also for the Shell the night of the show?

Best way to Huanama Bay? Is a $15 tour worthwhile, considering it includes entrance cost? Better than a cab?

We are pretty low-key travellers (and bargain-minded), so Waikiki is pretty out of our element, but we still want to see a few things, and spend some quality beach time, too of course!

Thanks for any help you all can provide...

Bummer on the fairy. :(

And we already determined we won't be there nearly long enough to see and do everything... even some of the priorities. But Kaua'i looks like something we'd at least like to see via helicopter tour, but I don't think they depart Oahu.

OK here we go
Yes Buses are available to Pearl Harbor and Aloha Stadium. Do Pearl Harbor first early, then if time permits the stadium. Take a bus between, to far to walk in the heat of the day.
Take a bus to Diamond head. Again, early is the key word and take lots of water and gatorade with you!!
From where your hotel is you should be able to walk to the aquarium. Also just walking around waikiki and the international market place can be a blast.
Looking quickly at the map, you should be within easy walking distance of the Shell. Which also puts you in walking distance of the Elks if your one of the many going to the pre-party there.
Aloha

PS about the buses. Yes can be confusing. The drivers can usually tell you what bus to take, etc. I will check out schedules for you and get back with the bus numbers you want for which ones.. And yes $15 for Huanama Bay is very worth while...Better than cab or bus!!!

Geekie-THANK YOU :D That info is very helpful, and if you can tell me which bus is the express to the Arizona, we'll be forever in your debt and happy to buy you a drink! We are hoping to go to the PH club party @ the elk's, but we're assuming that kids wouldn't be a great idea, so we'd have to leave them w/the babysitter really early to do that. We're still trying to figure that part out. Sometimes I wonder why we're bringing them - but I can't wait for them to experience Hawaii! If only they could fly in by themselves the day after the show...j/k

Tiki, ok my brain is fried [smilie=blush.gif] . It's oct - I couldn't wait till August!

OK for all you soon to be bus users here is the scoop from the Waikiki area to most wanted to visit areas.

The '20' will take you from waikiki to Pearl harbor and stadium and back starting a 6:20ish am all day. Runs every 35 mins or so.

The '50' or the '22' will take you from waikiki to diamond head, hanauma bay and the sea life park (expensive). Runs every 30mins or so

The 'B' express will take you to the downtown historical area and to the Bishop musem. Runs every 20mins or so.

Cost is $2 each way, transfers are free (ask for one if needed). I don't think you will need them for any of these. All these routes are same bus. You can get 4 day passes at any ABC store. $10 ish?

Hope this covers it. Looking forward to meeting all of you :wench:

PS the 4 day pass is $20.00

GG- you're incredible. Thank you again.

On the ABC stores - do they carry any food, or is it just bev & alcohol? Does it vary depending on the location? I've only been to a few.

I can take it :D

Keep watching the airlines for their interisland fares. They've been changing the fares in the last few days, some that were pretty expensive are getting cheaper (not cheaper than I got, thank goodness). It seems that you could easily do a day trip pretty last minute. Maybe you'll find it cheaper as we get closer???

BTW, if you do get to Kauai, see Waimea Canyon. Like I said before, it's an incredible island with so many great features, it can make your head spin, buy Waimea Canyon is so unique. And the view of Ni ihau from the top is pretty incredible at sunset. I hope you get to go!

Where is that? We're staying at the Waikiki Marriott, at the end of Waikiki near the Shell. Are there better places to pick up breakfast foods and snacks close by our hotel? I can't spend $25 on breakfast when my kids will eat 1 pancake.
