HELP PLEASE -SURF BOARD QUESTION

Post by divashe »

If this has been asked and answered, I apologize, but I didn't see it. I recently saw Jimmy at Nissan in Virginia. There was a surfboard on stage with a name and a symbol --ranger? special forces? Does anyone know the significance? Thanks...

The name was Lieutenant Colonel Bill Kilgore, a character in the movie Apocalypse Now, played by Robert Duval. If I remember correctly, the symbol is the First Cavalry Division patch:

During the AC show, they played a video with a clip from the movie and meshed it with the video of Jimmy when he went tanker surfing in the Gulf of Mexico. 8) 8)
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

My goodness, what a great actor. Robert Duval is one of my favorites of all time.

Do you remember his first movie? Never spoke a line.

THANKS AGAIN

Post by divashe »

I appreciate all the history and back stories. The back stories are one of the reasons I love JB. It's so much more than what's on the surface. Thanks again for all this. I can't wait to share it.

I loved when they were in the chopper checking out the swells.
Duvall's character noted how two guys could ride simultaneously, one on the set breaking right, the other on the one breaking left.
Maybe if my son continues with his plan of becoming an Army helicopter pilot he can combine the two passions as well.
Not two much surf in the middle east, but I did once ride a short tri-fin set-up just south of Lebanon.

There ya go. Why is it that when we saw him just standing behind that door at the end of the film we knew he was gonna go somewhere?

Doesn't Robert Duval have a big place here in Viriginia too. How cool to have that symbol of his movie in his home state or the state where he has his ranch.... :wench:

My son's name is Charlie and I have a picture online of him skating (well standing on my skateboard) that says something like Charlie might not surf, but he skates and my mom was like of course he doesn't surf hes only 2...lol...opps, right over her head!

Oh also...there is a funny hat with a picture of Charles Manson that says Charlie doesn't surf...
