Maybe by Ichiro...he's on pace to come close this year...
When I typed the original post I added "unless he does it himself". Then I thought that negates my argument that it would never be broken so I deleted that part.

What about Oscar Robertson averaging a triple double for the entire season!!! Jason Kidd and Steve Nash can do it a few times a year a few times a month if they're playing especially well, but to keep it up for an entire season?!?!?!

I believe you are correct. The Patriots 3 Super Bowls might be the closest thing to a dynasty that the NFL will see for many years . . . and they are the odds on favorites for a 4th this year.

The record isn't that high, 3 career cycles, and it is held by amazingly enough 3 players.

Bob Meusel did it in the AL three times for New York; Babe Herman did it 3 times in the NL for Brooklyn (2) and Chicago (1); John Reilly did it three times for Cincinnatti, once in the NL (1890) and twice in the American Association (1883).

Still it is doubtful the record will ever be broken, because the cycle is such a rare event.

The Islanders won the cup from 80-83 inclusive. The Oilers, while not consecutively, won it 5 times from 84 to 90.

In this day and age of free agency, I'm always amazed when any professional sports team repeats.

not to sound like a Homer . . . but the Patriots really have been amazing!!! I guess I should throw the Spurs into that as well.

Absolutely agree. I'm glad my team (the Redskins) doesn't have to play them too often. Of course, the last time they did, I think they beat them. :) The Pats (I think) won a Super Bowl that year. 8)

Not anymore, the Braves released him last week. They traded for some young guy from Texas who's supposed to be an upgrade at first base.

Since baseball is the only PROFESSIONAL sport I follow with any regularity, here are some records I feel are not only GREAT, but will be safe forever:
Cy Young's 511 wins
Cy Young's 749 complete games
Nolan Ryan's 7 no-hitters
Nolan Ryan's 12 one-hitters
Nolan Ryan's 5700-plus strikeouts
Rickey Henderson's 1400-plus stolen bases
Jack Chesboro's 41 wins (1904)?
Whitey Ford's 10 world series wins (NOT post season-WORLD SERIES!
Whitey Ford's 32 consecutive scoreless innings in world series
Johnny Van der Meer's two consecutive no-hitters. (If somebody else pitches back-to-back-no hitters, that would only TIE the record-to break it, they'd have to pitch THREE consecutive no-hitters-AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN)
Gene Stephens three hits in one inning (to break it, one would have to get FOUR hits in an inning-AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN)
Fernando Tatis' two grand slams in one inning (AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN THREE TIMES)
Lou Gerhig's 23 lifetime grand slams
"Wahoo" Sam Crawford's lifetime 309 triples
Pete Rose's lifetime 4256 hits
Cal Ripken's 2600-plus consecutive games played (DAMN sure ain't gonna happen)
Atlanta Braves 14 consecutive division titles
THIS will p*ss off a few of the communists-
New York Yankees five consecutive world series titles
Boston Red Sox eight consecutive post season wins
Paul Molitor's & Robin Yount's five hits in a world series game
Rennie Stennet's seven hits in seven at-bats in a 9-inning game
Harvey Haddix's 13 innings of no runs, no hits in a game
Don Mattingly, Dale Long, and Ken Griffey Jr. hitting a homer in 8 consecutive games
Don Mattingly hitting six grand slams in a season
Scott Sanderson recording a win against all 28 M.L. teams (two additonal teams have been added since his retirement)
Connie Mack managing a M.L. team for 50 years (Philadelphia)

And something about some guy named Joe-something hitting safely in a bunch of consecutive games.

FINALLY,
we may or may not see another 300 game winner in our (YOUR) lifetime, but as long as there is M.L. baseball, there will never EVER be another pitcher to win 30 games in a season.

THOUGHTS?

I think Buffalo's four consecutive Super Bowl losses will be safe for a while as well.
