My mother's college roommate's husband did the art on the cover of the book. How's that for some useless information. LOL

That's actually pretty cool. Somewhere I still have a very well worn beach towel from the summer when the movie first came out.

I too read the book, then saw the movie. I vaguely remember being scared to go in the water down the Cape for 1 day, cause everyone on the beach had the book in their hands  but I went in anyway cause I was certain that the shark hadn't made it to that cape beach from MV

living in Florida, alligators scare me more but the Jaws theme pop in my mind at least for a few seconds when I'm in the ocean..

I lived in Key West when the movie came out, I saw hundreds of sharks in the waters there while flying around the Keys. Probably the biggest was a 20' hammerhead.

Yep!! :)
Being in Illinois and Colorado my whole life, there wasn't a lot of ocean swimming going on for me.

But by the time they got to like Jaws 7 wasn't the shark swimming in rivers and lakes? Hehehe. I never watched the whole series.
It's amazing to me how much this movie affected a whole generation and more. Buffettbride - you should see it. If only for the cheese factor. I still love the movie even though you can see the special affects for what they are now. It's still impressive. Part of the good thing about the movie is the whole male bonding thing, guys singing and drinking and fishing for a big fish.

I was just going to ask the same thing, yes, watching it, my hubby the Doc of docandjeanie is a shark week nut, he's been waiting for it all summer. I still get creeped out when I am snorkeling, always think there is one around me. Thanks to jaws..... read the book, watched the movie, was really freaked out that summer, didn't go in the water much that year....

Eternally fins up!

Quint's tale of the USS Indianapolis is one of the best moments in the film.

I was in 5th grade when this printing of the book came out. I was trying to get a look at the nude woman about to be eating. I still have this copy.

you can buy a first edition first printing for not much at all. Oddly enough since the movie was such a success

I saw it eleven times in the theater when I was a kid. Still my favorite movie of all time.

"Jaws Fest" anyone?

Saw "Jaws" last week and "Jaws 2" on Sunday, on TV here in the UK.

Just off the coast of Cornwall, south west England, fishermen have taken photos of what scientists think is a great white! And yesterday a 500 pound Thresher shark was caught of the south coast. I think I will stay out of the sea for a while! 8)
