Morning all....

Jury duty...I have flown overseas and it was just as long, this time I had roomier seat!

11:30am - they came in to say, things are going longer than expected, go to lunch now be back at 1:30pm

called a friend, told her my crap news and we went to lunch

1:00pm - back in the holding pen, because it was airconditioned! continued to ready my book.

2:00pm - we were told they are not done making a decision if they need juries or not, if we do not hear anything they will let us go at 3:00pm

2:25pm- saw someone knew who was also waiting! Figures it would take that long (about 60+ people). We sat and talked and did a little networking, at least for contract jobs (I used to do conventions and learned that everyone was really bummed when I left.)

3:00pm - they came in to release us!

Got a lousy $.17 a mile and $9 for my troubles came to $11.28. Parking was $14.00

So I guess it is a bonus I am not stuck there! Read all about 30 pages of Tales of Margaritaville, did 3 word puzzles and listened to my iPod Shuffle almost all the way through!

thanks ((((all)))) for the hugs!

Today, going to the local College (alum) to see about a position I have applied for.

Hey Karat, I feel your pain.

When you say Events, do you mean as in a meeting and events planner or exactly what are you looking for? I don't know anyone in Pittsburgh however I might suggested Linkedin.com as a starting point to (re)build your professional network. Also, you may want to check with the various hotels in the area, like the Marriott, the Hilton and any others that host meetings and events. I know that they tend to have a fair amount of turnover. Also contact the local tourism group and see if they need someone to help handle inbound events. Last, idea off the top of my head is to check with the larger travel agencies in the area and see if they have meeting, incentive and group departments and go from there.

I have no doubt that you will find something fairly quickly. In the meantime, lots of PH Power!!

THANKS! I have been on both sides of the sails, well may be three sides. I have planned fundraisers, socail events and the like, worked at the hotel in catering sales department, worked a GM for a catering facility, as a convention decorator (we set the 'stage' for the vendors to come in).

I a mlooking everywhere and thinking about my own business... we shall see. Just dropped off my resume at my old college...

You actually sound like you are handling this rather well. Best thoughts with you always.

Hey - I work in events too! :D Have you tried local convention services companies? Do you have George P Johnson out there?

I work for a big tech company and am facing layoffs as well. Haven't got the news yet, but our CEO and the EVP of our dept announced the layoffs today. I'm pretty sure I'm a goner on this one.

Ah well...greener pastures will be ahead for both of us... :)

George P Johnson - can't say I have heard of them. I'd be willing to work here and travel wherever!

GPJ is a company that seems to manage every single event/trade show I've been involved with lately. I'm in San Jose, CA ducking and hoping to avoid layoffs.

You're on the East Coast? Check with local tradeshow companies - they seem to always need experienced event people.

Thanks for the Phins! :D
