Paste magazine has compiled a list of America's 40 best music venues. This is kind of old news, appears to have been published several months ago, but it only just came to my attention and I thought it would be of interest to some. An interesting assortment to be sure.

I've been to Cafe Live in Philly, Iron Horse in Northhampton MA, and Bluebird Cafe in Nashville.... all are *awesome*!!
If I lived in/near Nashville, I'd probably be at Bluebird weekly....

I see Red Rocks is on the list. I want to see someone there one day, don't really care who.

You and I both! Jimmy would be great.
I visited and took photos, but never saw a show there.
Been to Continental Club and Stubbs in Austin. I've been in Tipitina's in New Orleans, but not for a show.

Diana Krall is there at the end of the month? What time shall I pick you up?

That place ROCKS!
We saw Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers there twice in 2005, back to back nights. First and last time at Red Rocks.
Then we headed up to Chicago and saw Jimmy twice at Wrigley Field.
All in one week!
Just a little concert trip!

chip, that would be too good to be true!
gbman, I wanna go on little concerts trips like you do!!
If anyone is in Austin, TX on a Tuesday evening, that's when Tony Price plays for Old Hippy Night at Continental Club. I've seen Tony once or twice and love her music and have never caught that show.
I understand it's one of the best things to do in Austin.

Seriously, how did the Chicken Box not make it. Best bands in the world crash on that little dune dive.

Got spoiled growing up and going to shows there... Moved away in 1994, and have been back several times since... Just saw Rush there last Wednesday.
My favorite place on earth....

True, about who plays at the Box, but the article seemed focused on how the place is to hear music. Didn't see Stephen Talkhouse there, either, but while it's also a cool place to see a band or an artist, it's not really optimized to *hear* the music, which what this article focused on, I think.

From one who's out west:
This list seems to be star-struck, places where you're likely to meet "stars" I agree with choices like Largo, The Troubador, and The Gorge
but... being from San Diego
you will not have a better time with great talent a touch away than at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach
and you will not have a better AUDIO experience than Copley Hall
