This whole mess started in the 70's. The unions contributed to the problem then to a small extent. The corporations are definately more to blame. The government also played a role. Corps did not modernize to gain efficiancies, of course unions battled efficiency to preserve jobs when companies attempted to modernize. Government regulation and tax policies encouraged movement overseas. Companies also didn't get on the quality bandwagon until it was too late. There were many factors all are guilty.flyboy55 wrote: Some may blame unions for chasing all the jobs out of the country, but how are you going to keep any jobs in the country when someone somewhere in the world is willing to do them for a fraction of what a living wage is in this country?
I blame corporations and their enablers in government who still want and expect Americans to buy all that stuff, they just don't want to pay Americans to build all that stuff.
Is it REALLY worth it?

go back as far as you want in our lifetime's blame any president you want (they all contributed) and a LOT of American companies fell right in so they could make more profit by going overseas after the president/congress allowed laws to help tax shelter companies that used China. Bottom line, our leadership lied and whored us out and it cost us jobs, hurt the economy and made us completely dependent on them.
