Remembering my first love......

No, not her
The other day I was in Target and mixed in with the other "summer close-outs" was a CD I had seen several times , but never purchased. For some reason, I was compelled to buy it this time (perhaps it is my cheapi-ness and its close out status) Anyway, what I came home with the other day was The Beach Boys- Sounds Of Summer. What this CD is is 30 of my favorite songs by a group that I have seen live more times than any other, except Jimmy.
Little did I know as a young pup in the early seventies, that my first ever rock concert would be one of the very last that Brian Wilson would perform as a Beach Boy I have seen them at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago, Summerfest in Milwaukee numerous times, the old Chicago Stadium, with other bands, as the headliner and even as an after thought. The fact is, my continuing fascination with Beach and ocean music whiched evoled into my 30 year love affair with Jimmy, all began innocently on my transitor radio, undr my pillow listening to WLS in Chicago after bedtime, hoping to hear one more time, I Get Around, Fun, Fun, Fun or the one that really hooked me, Barbara Ann
I've seen Jimmy, 20 or 30 times since the mid 70's. From the early 70's to the mid 80's, I saw Mike, Carl, Dennis, Al and the rest probably 15 0r 20 times. I always wondered, who taught who how to strut, Mike L:ove or Mick Jagger? The shows were always incredible, the songs unforgettable, yet somehow....being vinyl, they slipped away.
This CD brought a big part of my past back to life and I love it. If you are not familiar with the body of work that is this band, they are vastly under-rated in my opinion. Considering they went head to head with the Beatles and the Stones, when you look at the chart placement, you'll see something really special happened beginning in 1964 (or so)
PS, I have yet to listen to Kokomo
and I really wish Marcella was on here
