I would ask them if they ever have listened to the lyrics and/or if they know any other songs rather that CIP and Margaritaville – my wife didn’t get it either when we started dating but a few CD’s and 4 concerts later she is a true parrothead – even agreed to buying floor seats for the MGM Vegas show.
Of course, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink a margarita

I just LOVE this!
I'm an old Grateful Dead fan and tried for years to explain to a new set of friends and even my husband why I liked the band. It was the community feeling of the audience more than anything. I found the same community feeling at Buffett but I don't even try to explain it anymore. If anyone mentions it I just look at them with sadness and explain, "you're just too uptight to get it."

There's an old quote that I heard to describe the Grateful Dead, in fact I think it was from Jerry himself (and I'm paraphrasing here):
We're like black licorice. Not everyone likes black licorice, but those that do, can't get enough of it.
I think that's a pretty accurate description of parrotheads as well.

Well I was drivin' down I-95 the other night.
Somebody nearly cut me right off the road.
I decided it wasn't gonna do any good to get mad.
So I wrote a song about him instead.
It goes like this...
Were you born an a**hole?
Or did you work at it your whole life?
Either way it worked out fine
'cause you're an a**hole tonight.
Yes you're an A S S H O L E...
And don't you try to blame it on me.
You deserve all the credit.
You're an a**hole tonight.
You were an a**hole yesterday.
You're an a**hole tonight.
And I've got a feelin'
you'll be an a**hole the rest of your life.
And I was talkin' to your mother
just the other night.
I told her I thought you were an a**hole.
She said, "Yes. I think you're right."
And all your friends are assholes
'cause you've known them your whole life.
And somebody told me
you've got an a**hole for a wife.
Were you born an a**hole?
Or did you work at it your whole life?
Either way it worked out fine
'cause you're an aaaass...hole tonight.

I feel sorry for them, just tell them that one..... You either get it or you don't
Does anyone have a recording of this song.... thanks a bunch.

I ignore it since I was in the middle of another conversation, but it ticked off a nerve. I've decided that simply writing off Buffett Bashing as "They don't 'get it.'" I need a counterargument that doesn't necessarily put other musicians down, but (for lack of a better word) at least attempts to bring Buffett up.
I've thought of a few things: his marketing and entrepreneurial ability, charity work, longetivity, top selling concerts across the country, etc. but I feel like I need more.
"Y'know...I'm sure there are people out there who thinks that your favorite music sucks too. Have a nice night."

I don't have that one...but a friend has a song titled "A$$hole," which can be found in the following place:
http://www.roadsideattraction.net/ - Click "First Time," then "Music," then you'll find it at the third song down.
WARNING: It is *NOT* safe for work.

None of my friends are into Jimmy much either but I don't care.
One cool thing is that recently new neighbors moved in across the street from me and
the other day I hear Ringling Ringling blaring out of the garage.
Of course I had to go right over and introduce myself.
Turns out the guy is a parrothead but has never been to a show
but of course we're gonna rectify that situation soon enough.
And Larry.
You should put out a book of pics with you and hot chicks
Call it "me and the tailgate babes" or something along those lines
