At least your friends know who you are talking about.
Its really hard explaining being a Parrothead to an english person who hasnt a clue who JB is! I have now stopped trying and just answer:
Its not just about the music, its more of a lifestyle choice...............

I am teased a lot about being a PH.
Frankly I don' t give a rats ass.
Just today I was at work and a co-worker (who loves Elvis) was waiting on a customer (who loves Elvis) and I said oh are you both mourning together. The one says "well its better than that "OLD" guy you listen too that sings that one song. I pulled up her portfolio and she turned 60 earlier this year........tell me I didn't run with that one!!!
My motto:
My name is Lori, I am a PH.....and I get it!!!

I know, damn napster. Still a song I play when dealing with SOME of my darling neighbors!

Oh course, just like the song, want to send it to someone...

That's great you got an apology.
I guess it just comes down to common courtesy (which a lot of people lack these days).
I was always taught that it is rude to insult something that you know someone else likes, regardless of what it is...beer, choice of spouse, choice of music, even political party (no matter how twisted some people may be! ha ha

)
Its like telling someone that their lunch choice is "disgusting."
It's not polite.

To bad more people don't feel that way.

Ever have someone order a mixed drink, taste it, make an ugly face, turn to you and say, "that tastes like crap! Here, take a sip!"

My know it all/thinks he's better than everyone else/morally superior brother in law asked (when I was playing Buffett on the the family beach vacation) in his snotty voice "So, exactly where is Margaritaville anyway?" I wanted to say "Anywhere your not!" But to keep the peace I just said "It's a state of mind - you probably wouldn't get it."

He shut up real quick. (Before he went LITERALLY crying to my boss).

One thing I neglected to mention-that same north end of a south bound jackass is a hard-core KISS fan.

Another band with mediocre talent that brings in fans with exuberant performances and a marketing machine???

I was talking with a buddy of mine this weekend who is a HUGE Kiss fan and he said that Gene Simmons said one time "we aren't musicians, we are a rock and roll band". So, sounds like Kiss knows (or at least realized at one point) that they were not the most talented bunch of guys but knew how to entertain people. I think that is a key distinction that people may not think about.

Amen!! FOB and Avril aren't punk, they are mainstream pop artists! Give me the Sex Pistols, the Dead Kennedys, the Ramones, the Henry Rollins Band and a host of others if you want punk, but not the wannabes.

jonesbeach10 wrote:So I'm hangin out with a bunch of friends tonight and two of my friends start bashing on Jimmy Buffett (they're music snobs) loud enough to make sure I can hear (I'm the lone parrothead). I ignore it since I was in the middle of another conversation, but it ticked off a nerve. I've decided that simply writing off Buffett Bashing as "They don't 'get it.'" I need a counterargument that doesn't necessarily put other musicians down, but (for lack of a better word) at least attempts to bring Buffett up.
I've thought of a few things: his marketing and entrepreneurial ability, charity work, longetivity, top selling concerts across the country, etc. but I feel like I need more.
I just pull out my latest batch of tailgate pictures and say " Do you
think you'll see this at a (fill in name of inferior artist) concert? I don't
think so."
