I was in a factory by myself, because all my co-woprkers had been deported (back in the olden days when we enforced immigration laws) Probably had Jimmy cranked up on a cassette. I must admit, E was a joke at the time, fat and silly and full of himself and I felt nothing. He was no more a musical influence on me then Alvin and the Chipmunks. Sorry for you Elvis lovers, but I don't get it.

Elvis impersonators are why I will not go see a Jimmy impersonator, like appeared in Rock Island last weekend

I don't remember because one of my best friends died that same day. He was 22 and was getting ready to return to school after battling cancer for the previous semester. A blot clot got loose and killed him.

I had no sympathy for Elvis. Elvis basically killed himself. Everyone kept saying how young he was. I kept thinking how young my friend was.

I was with family on our way to the cottage for the week. I was 11 at the time. I remember we were driving in the '78 Monte Carlo when it came over on the radio.

I was 14 - about to be 15 - and my family was on vacation in Washington DC. I saw the headline as we walked out of the hotel and pointed it out to my parents who didn't seem to notice. Although at the time I was a Beatles/Paul McCartney and John Denver fan, I was still saddened. Just didn't really know why.

Looking back and knowing what I know now, I'm sad to say that his death seems pretty pathetic. I'm sure that the young guy who started out in the music business would be depressed to know how he'd end up. I wonder if things would've been different if someone could've knocked some sense in him 10+ years before it happened?

I was 11 and we were in Wilmington for my uncles' softball team state playoffs. I remember that all of my cousins and I would whisper about Elvis being found dead on the toliet, like it was a big secret. My mom was so upset.

30 years ago....I must have been 24. I don't remember it at all. I wasn't a big fan either and I guess it wasn't on my radar. :-?

I was nine. I don't remember hearing the news or how I reacted, I just remember the next day, I sat in the orthodontic's office for what seemed like 9 hours getting my braces on and EVERY cool show was pre-empted with coverage of his death. I just remember thinking "what's the big deal, so he's dead?" Little did I know he would be missed by so many.

My first car was a '78 Monte Carlo!!!

That was a great car!!!!

I kick myself every time I think I traded it in for an '88 Nissan Sentra. YUCK! I'm so imbarrased to admit that!!!!!

I was 14 years old. I remember walking into our kitchen on that hot summer day, the airconditioner was always running full blast so it was cold. Our little black and white TV was on in the corner showing the news. We weren't that into his music but we watched his movies. You have to remember at the time of his death he had become a kind of lounge act.
I remember John Lennon's reaction was for him, Elvis died when he went into the army. I tend to agree with that statement.

There will never be another like him.

At home taking care of a 2 year old! Thought, well last time I saw a picture of him he looked pretty bad, and didn't think more of it than that.
