Irvine apathy?

I can't help but notice 2 things -
1) Most people talking about attending are from far away, and places where Jimmy doesn't play
2) Tickets are still easily available
I'm used to Chicago / Alpine / Indy / Cinci / Greatwoods where tickets sell out in under 20 minutes, lawn included. So in thinking about Irvine, this concerns me. Also, tailgating concerns me. Remember, my standards are pretty high. I'm used to the monster tailgates with "Nearly Nekked Slip 'N Slide", "Wheel of Fortune", "Bare ass guessing" and more flashing than Mardi Gras.
That leads me to questions -
1) Is the sound at the venue that bad? (Chicago is - Jimmy sounds better on cassette in the back seat of a Pinto.)
2) Is the tailgate as apathetic as the crowd?

Any official news on BN tailgate or Las Brisas Friday night get together?
I hope the rain stays away THIS year.

Where do you get tickets are readily available? Last time I checked this week only single tickets were available.

LB, why you respond to my post? But I do have a question for you and the other SoCal's. We are only a 3 weeks away from Irvine, and there hasn't been many updates on anything? Talk of Las Brisa's on Friday night, and I believe that's set.
Tailgating? I've asked this several times in this thread, but haven't received an answer yet. Is there anything organized tailgate wise. Do the BN'ers get together and party like they do at other venues? The little I've seen in this thread I get the impression that everyone does there own thing. If there is an organized tailgate of BN'er someone please let me know. I'm coming in from Texas, and want to have some fun with fellow BN folks on Friday

Sorry Diverg, my mistake...I shouldn't have run that quote off your last post .
It was answering back to the previous posting.
I can't speak for others, but the other BN'ers I know out here, don't formally plan
a meeting at the tailgate... we find each other once we're here pretty much.
I'll be there at the front end of the lot at 2:30 pm and my crew (SecretsInTheCrust & co. )and we'll have a BuffettNews flag flying.
I won't be doing the Las Brisas deal. but I hear it's a great starting point on Friday

diverg, if your staying in an area that is near the spectrum, check it out. or even ask about it from a local. from what i have seen in the past, the sprectrum is a mostly out door shopping mall, with parrothead friendly resturants and bars. of course they usually have something going on the nite before and maybe after the concert. good luck and good hunting.

Mason,
You ask reasonable questions. Here is my take from a veteran of 20 plus Irvine shows:
- The parking lot party is wild, and next to Great Woods, the BEST in the country. We just came from both Boston shows where we had our tour bus with us, and the tailgating does equal Irvine, but Irvine is still the west coast king.
- I agree, people in packs of 5 - 50 are "on there own". This is not to say a community does not pop up, it does. I have not seen BNer's together, at this show or others really. Part of this is the way you enter the lots and get spread out, real tough to have more than three vehicles get close, even when you try and drive in together.
- Irvine fans I would say are not apathetic and are as diehard as anyone, just wait and see on the Big Day. Lack of crazed posts may be more of a sign of people enjoying the great weather out here, surf and other music, not just Jimmy. We are going to the Eagles, saw Chesney one night on our east coast tour, INXS, etc. Life beyond Jimmy, no offense. So Cal parrotheads should be quite the scene and hopefully you will enjoy!
- As far as night before, well you may be right. It looks like many people are off doing their own things.
Please feel free to stop by and say hello to my wife and I if you can find us in all the ruckus on the day of the show. We will be there by Noon, alas, our bus will still be out east. We have a white convertible Bentley with "PIRET40" plates and our a black Escalade with "HTL CALI" plates, both will be parked next to each other in the car area. We are diehards and plan on partying till we drop (then be driven home!).

Got my tickets in the mail on Monday, and I can't wait. Bought the wife some hand warmers just in case the weather changes.

Let's hope for an early gate opening. Every year it seems to change. On the site it lists
http://www.livenation.com/event/getEvent/eventId/294853 3pm but we all know how that seems to work. I know the last Irvine show it was pretty close to that time if I'm not mistaken. I can't help but think of the good days not that long ago when it was Irvine Meadows and the gates would open in the am. Let's start sending those positive vibes torward Irvine PD's way so they feel giving on the day of the show.

I heard that a few years ago someone showed up with a Dump Truck full of sand, and proceeded to create their own beach Volleyball area in the parking lot. That same person told me they got a little bit stricter in the parking lot after that.

Yeah...I think that they put a stop to the sand, and you can't enter the lot with anything being towed (like tiki bars being pulled on a trailer), etc...

I am driving in from the Desert on Friday night, so I don't think I am going to be able to make it down to Las Brisas. I really wanted to, but it looks I will be dinning at Dave & Busters on Friday night.

OCPHC and LAPHC Joining for A Phintastic Tailgate in Irvine
Posted: September 14, 2007 10:13 pm
by MVJim
The members of the Orange County Parrotheads and the Los Angeles Parrotheads will be joining forces to have a grand tailgate including entertainment provided by Bob Karwin and Buzz Buchanan in the RV section of the parking lot.
If you haven't been to Irvine, it rocks. Last concert held there in April 2006, the gates opened up at about 2:45 p.m. or about 15 minutes before the announced 3:00 p.m. It used to be noon but they are trying to "control" things a bit. But is was quite the blast!!
We will be meeting around 12 noon at Tijuana's off Sand Canyon in Irvine (right by the La Quinta). We then will caravan from there. It looks like everyone will be responsible for their own food and drinks.
Las Brisas is an awesome place to meet in Laguna Beach. You will enjoy it.

Does the Las Brisas have a dress code? Looking at the website it looks kinda of fancy. Is typical JB dress acceptable? Ie. shorts tshirt etc.

I do not believe Las Brisas has a dress code but I do believe you need to wear a shirt and have shoes. Buffett shirts, shorts, and flips are fine. Very nice scenery in all respects!! Overlooks Laguna's Main Beach & the cliffs. It is definitely not a dive but rather is a trendy upbeat casual-type bar/restaurant.

I agree!! I'm coming all the way from Florida to go to this show by myself, and was hoping to have arranged some tailgate buddies by now! It doesn't sound like there are any big plans
