At least nine workers were hurt in Utah's Crandall Canyon mine Thursday evening where rescuers have been trying to reach six men trapped deep under ground.

CNN is reporting that one of these workers has died.

Tragedy on top of tragedy, and sadness on top of sadness.

Just sad beyond belief.

I was watching Fox and they had one ambulance at a hospital and the EMT's were doing CPR on one of the rescue workers. I couldn't believe they showed that video.

Phin power to everyone.

That's what I thought, the EMTs were really working on him and these women were just talking over it like nothing was going on in the background.

The video was on a loop too. And they just kept coming back to it.

The EU PHC has been watching and doing a "conga line" (M'ville.com version of Phinpower) for the families. Have not heard if anyone from the Club was directly affected (immediate family) but it did not sound like it, tho friends and friends of family probably are. (It's not exactly a huge community).

Actually just found out this morning there are a couple of members of the Wasatch Mtn Club that are directly involved......they're all okay, but dealing with the aftermath....so phin power for them.....
It really is another sad day in Utah today..........

So sad to see this news that men that were so brave to go in there to help others have perished themselves. It's always a risky task..that's why it always goes pretty slow, unfortantely.

This hits home because, as I mentioned last year with the WV Sago mine disaster, my father is a coal miner and been so for nearly 30 years now.

With that said, he did tell me something interesting about the owner, Bob Murray. Apparently, he can not be trusted. He used to work in the Pennsylvania area where my dad works...didnt' pay his workers, etc. It looks to be that they were mining the area wrong and it was a shift in pressure, not an earthquake..

Anyway, very sad news....I'm losing hope that those miners are alive now.
