It certainly isn't a "requirement" to drink at Buffett shows...heck, I've even been completely sober at one. Now that I think of it, I've been all different degrees of drunk (excluding "sick" drunk) at various shows over the years. I'm one of those people who totally doesn't have to drink to totally have a good time! :D

My cousin told me that he went to dozens of Dead shows, and was stone cold sober for every one.

But he's been to about a dozen Buffett shows and has always been drunk...

On occasion, there have been postings by parrotheads who are in 12 step programs. I have a good friend in recovery who finds that the environment at Buffett shows is just too difficult to do, but I do know others that do still go to shows, and enjoy it.

And while I do drink, I don't think I have ever been drunk at a Buffett show.

Your typical Dead crowd isn't, well, "sober". They definitely are in an altered state though. I never did that (you all know what I mean) at the couple of Dead shows I went to. It wasn't my thing.

As for beer and Buffett, as I've gotten older, I've drank less at his shows and have really enjoyed myself. I can actually remember them now! Plus, it's fun to watch very, very, very drunk people. [smilie=pimp.gif]

Yep. When you've been knocked down on the lawn for the 3rd time...it ceases to be funny...

or had them do a faceplant in the middle of your group because they couldn't negotiate their way around it; they get up; and immediately get angry with you... it makes you want to have snuck a taser in... (because the humour on that is a lot more than a drunk... and no one is going to believe their story they didn't soil themselves from drinking, but because they got zapped.. )

True. Then you could say "Look over there - someone's giving away free beer!" If that doesn't work, a spatula to the forehead might do the trick.

Same here. I prefer to enjoy the show and, besides, I normally am the one driving.

There are more sober people than you think at the shows. Even the tailgates. I was loopy ONCE at a concert, but mostly I just have a couple of drinks, with water in between. I want to REMEMBER everything !!! If you think people will try to foist drinks or jello shots on you, just carry around your own container of juice or water or soda and say no thanks. It's a matter of self-control, really.

I get to the shows as early as possible. I drink. Plenty. Until about 2 hours before show-time. It gives me time to sober up a bit...then I am in a proper state of mind to enjoy the show. The alcyhol has my inhibitions lowered, but I'm not a totally wasted idiot. And....after 3 hours of dancing, I go back to the tailgate party and have more fun (without drinking). By this time, I'm sober enough to drive home!
