Philly Phin Power to all those in harm's way. Especially our Jamaican friends who can't leave the island. We have traveled there and have become friendly with some on the island, really worried about them and their families...... more prayers and thoughts go out to them...

Ditto... we call Ocho Rios our 2nd home!! I sent many emails this morning to our Jamaican friends.... of course no reply yet. WHile Ochie may be spared moreso than say Kingston.... Dean is HUGE... it will effect every part of the Island.

I think they are in Kingston. They said the eye wall will be passing South of them in Kingston in a couple of hours. Hopefully not a direct hit of the eye.

SO far looking at the map.... Jamaica will not get a direct hit. BUT... they are on the North side of the storm.... which is where the winds and storm surge is the worst. There will be much wind and flood damage

No problem. If you can get the link to stay up long enough they are giving out their (the anchors) e-mail and reading it on air. Jamaica also has and extensive SMS system to alert folks so maybe they can help get you in touch with your friends.

No reports of fatalities in China so far - seems they evacuated well - hope the same for Jamaica.

THE powerful typhoon Sepat hammered into south-eastern China early today after officials had relocated nearly a million people to safer areas.

Sepat landed in Quanzhou city east of Fujian province at 2am (0400 AEST), the Xinhua news agency said, after pounding Taiwan yesterday with torrential rain, powerful winds and mudslides.

More than 900,000 people in southern and eastern Chinese provinces had earlier been relocated, including more than 540,000 people in Fujian, Xinhua said.

In Zhejiang province, nearly 300,000 people had been evacuated to safety and 27,704 vessels called back to harbour. In Guangdong, around 70,000 people, including fishermen and residents in low-lying areas, had been evacuated.

Chinese meteorologists have issued the highest-level warnings for Sepat, which was moving north-west at a speed of 15 kph to 20 kph.

All the entries of expressways in Fuzhou, capital of Fujian, were closed, while 109 domestic and international flights at Fuzhou airport were cancelled yesterday.

Xiamen and Jinjiang cities also cancelled outbound flights, Xinhua said.

The Ministry of Civil Affairs has sent 3000 tents to evacuated people in Fujian. Downpours have been forecast to hit the coastal areas of Fujian and neighbouring Zhejiang province.

Looks like Jamaica and Caymans will miss the direct hit. Mexico, on the other hand, will be the full brunt with the storm's current track between Tampico and the Mexico/Texas border.
