Sail on Blackdog.

Today I had to do the hardest thing I have ever done in my life when I drove my beloved Blackdog to the Vet and asked him to end her pain. Sable was given to me by my then girlfriend, now wife of 14 years for my 20th birthday. In her early years, she and I were inseparable. She went to work with me, to the store with me (Until the store told me I couldn't bring in a dog), about 1 million camping camping/fishing/hunting/backpacking trips, and even to the bar when I would go out. She has seen me move from bachelorhood to married life. She watched as my wife and I had 3 wonderful children. She waited patiently as I completed college (Twice) and she provided a good ear to all of my problems for the last 15 years. This dog was special. When I sent out an email to my friends today breaking the news, several called begging for me to throw a wake for what they have always called "our communal best friend” I have had and still have other labs, but Sable was special. She blew through hunt tests making me look like a pro trainer, and she helped raise and train all of my friend’s dogs. But one of the most unfortunate realities in life is that she would not grow old with me, but before me. It has only been 12 hours, and I already miss her more than I thought possible. And it is taking all of my emotional stability to write this eulogy. Some day, Blackdog and I will be reunited, and until then I will miss her every day.

I'm so sorry (((((Troy)))))!!! I hope my Sasha is waiting for her!!!!!
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Sail on Sable, I've had to help several pets to the Rainbow Bridge and there is nothing quite as painful, because they don't understand why you're doing it.
She WILL be waiting for you someday for a joyful reunion.
Take care.
