Guys, if you get the chance this weekend, check out the link above, in particular follow the "live webcast" links during the daylight hours to check out one fun east coast party and event ...... The 45th ECSC. I haven't missed this event live in over 30 years. Rumor around here is that Jimmy will either show up for a surprise appearance on the beach stage or perhaps as a surprise contestant in the "Legends" (age 50+) amateur longboard event (ok, I made that rumor up but if we can float rumors abount Long Island I can start a rumor about Virginia Beach).
Whatever. I'm posting this via my blackberry and ther will be a bikini contest on the main beach stage within the hour. Beer is flowing at the beach beer tent (yes, they have Landshark) and the women's pro finals are about to begin.
Two years from now I have every intention of competing in the "Legends" amateur longboard competition myself as a "young" Legends rookie. Until then, I believe I'll have a Landshark or two (is that Jimmy over there?).

In skimboarding, there wasn't one senior grand master (50+) entered
at the Easter Surf Fest (Cocoa Beach). I coulda been a contender!
Longboarding was something else, those old guys were really good!
Have fun, you've got me stoked!
The rain has stopped, I think I'll go rig up a sail for my old sailboard.
Naw, no wind.
The roads are dry enough, I'm gonna take out the Sector Nine Nosewalker.
Thanks for the motivation,
I'll tune later.

This is very cool. I"ve been to the contest before and wish I could go this year.
And as a way to see how rumors are started I skimmed the post and didn't see the part about I made this one up. I was about to tell my son who has gone to this contest before also.

Re: 45th East Coast Surfing Championships
I was a shortboard maniac back in my high school days in the 70s. I'm too old for that now (plus my old board is a 40 year old 6 ft.single fin which is 25 years older than the kids in the lineup with me). 3 years ago I decided to switch to longboarding after taking some lessons in Costa Rica during a getaway trip ..... Much more my style at my age now. I still can't walk the board down to a legit classic "hang ten" style, but I'm working on it! Maybe in couple of years.Longboardn' ASEL&S wrote:There's some pretty good legends out there these days.surfpirate wrote:

OMG is it HOT here in Vah Beach this weekend! 100 yersterday! Landsharks go down like water. Time to stop goober geeking with blackberry web surfing and go back to watching real surfing and the pro surfer finals. Waves for a change here in Vah Beach are pretty good and these pros are really ripping it.
Stay stoked!
