Margaritaville Casino and Resort

OK this may be old news here but is anyone looking forward to visiting this place?

Wonder if Jimmy will play at this place when it opens.

I am not into gambling, so I wouldn't make any special plans to visit. But, if I were in the neighborhood, it would make my agenda. I am surprised that someone is willing to make that kind of investment around a performer who is 60 years old and is likely in the twilight of his career.

Jimmy Buffett has a proven track record with most products associated with his name. I think its makes all the sense in the world from a business perspective. And at this point.... I don't think the M-ville Brand will disappear any time soon.... whether or not Jimmy is touring.

Margaritaville is a state of mind.... thats what Jimmy has preached for 30+ years.... Now Harrah's is paying him big bucks to make it an actual place.... which of course it really never will be.... but most people vacation somewhere.... this will be just another option.....

Will be worth a stop. Harrahs has a tendency to homogenize all their casinos. I hope they don't do the same here.

Perhaps Jimmy is planning on retiring from touring and will instead play 2 shows a night, 6 nights a week, 9 months a year at the Margaritaville Casino. He'd be the Wayne Newton of Biloxi. :D

I was in Biloxi a week ago. They are really excited that the casino is coming and that Jimmy's going to be at the opening. Especially the people at the Grand. Hard Rock is open now too, the locals seem to have a better outlook on things.

I'm looking forward to checking it out when it opens.

I swung by Hard Rock in July, the week after it opened. Absolutely amazing place. The fact that the restrooms have TVs integrated into the mirrors just blew me away.

I will be in Gulfport on the 11th of October. A good friend and a Katrina survivor lives there and he tells me it is going to be a gem. He has been there all of this life, except the time he and I were in the Air Force, and knows a boatload (no pun intended) of guys working at the site. Should be fun. I'll post pics!
Cheers All,
Go Browns!

Here is what I can pass along.....

the Biloxi Bay Bridge is still not open, hopefully, by the end of this year there will be 2 lanes open. You will have to detour on I10 to get from Ocean Springs to Biloxi and vice versa. (or go thru St. Martin)

The casinos are really what's pulling the money into the area... all are open, the Hard Rock was the latest to open. Your best casinos to visit... the Beau, the Hard Rock and the IP.

The beach docks still aren't open yet.... heck, those haven't been rebuilt yet.... The beach is open... just be careful where you set up shop.... there are designated areas for birds.

You will hear aircraft flying overhead... mostly C130 and C21 aircraft (based at Keesler). We do have a couple of approaches that buzz the casinos... don't be scared.... you may actually find that amazing considering we are under 1000ft the whole time (unless we have some other arrival planned).

When I was there in July, we had gone to Slidell for a swamp tour at Honey Island and drove 90 back into Biloxi. I was amazed at how much sand had been pulled off the beaches and how far out you could walk at what was apparently low tide. I swear it looked like people were easily 100 yards out and still less than ankle deep. Was glad to see the Bay St. Louis bridge rebuilt enough to have traffic on one span.

NBC Nightly News was in Waveland tonight and had a feature on Biloxi and the casinos - especially the impact the new laws have had wrt location. According to their report, casino revenues are higher now than before Katrina. The downside is that some homeowners are choosing not to rebuild and instead are hoping to sell the land to casino operators.

We stayed at the IP. Other than the traffic around the casinos, the rest of the area was ghostly quite. We were also there the first of June. One night we went up the road to where The Treasure Ship was/is, the casino was quite and the streets were still dark with gangs hanging out on the street corners. We didn't stay on that end of the strip very long.

I will definitely go for a visit! It sucks about the gangs on the corners. Hopefully the added revenue for the city will add more police!
