That's all I can ask for.
I have an issue though with some of your fellow officers who when pulled over after have a 12 pack or smoking something other then tobacco flash a badge and are let loose as a "professional courtesy".
You know, I have a HUGE issue with that.
Let's face it, every tree has a bad apple, but I don't need some rogue cop thinking all the job entails is putting on a uniform & bade to walk around and LOOK good. If they screw up, it makes ME look bad, and I don't need that. Yes, I have my own faults, which is WHY I believe what I believe-let me be judged on MY OWN merits, and let me rise or fall as a result of MY OWN laurels.
For the record-yes, I've stopped off duty officers who've been drinking, and, unless they've been involved in something other than having a few too many, I've given them the same choice I give ANYBODY I stop under those circumstances, and that is, first and foremost, if they pass the "STUPID TEST", I give them a choice-park the car and let ME drive you home in MY car, or, I do some paperwork. THEIR CALL. I get paid the same no matter which option they choose.
Actually I get kind of bent whenever I see a police officer break the law and not get cited for it. It sets a bad example and creates the perception of corruption, both of which are very bad things to do since it undermines the belief that the justice is blind and that all are treated the same by the law.
As I said above, I get VERY upset when that happens, and yes, in my eyes, justice is blind. I don't want to elaborate too much, but I've lost some supposed friends because of those beliefs. Which tells me just what kind of friends they are/were to begin with.
While I think that companies have the legal right to require random drug tests of their employees I don't like it.
I can understand that too. But THEIR company, THEIR rules.
I may not like it, you may not like it, but it's the same as if you are a guest in my house-you comply with MY rules, just as I would if I were in your house.
Much like I don't approve of the insurance company in Wisconsin that has banned its employees from smoking on or off the job.
Not allowing an employee to smoke CIGARETTS
off the job is pushing the envelope in my opinion too, but, as I said, their company, their rules.
I really don't believe that a company should be able to tell you what you can or cannot do on your own time.
It depends on the job.
In my profession, they can, and they SHOULD.
