s*** when did he cover DuMB?!?!? And i agree that he does too many covers and not enough of his own good songs.
He trotted out "Tripping Billies" a couple times I think, and every time he plays it, it sucks.
According to the setlist database:
12-21-2005: The Belly Up - Aspen, CO
10-20-2005: Fillmore Auditorium - San Francisco, CA
08-31-2005: Verizon Wireless Music Center - Noblesville, IN
08-21-2005: Riverbend Music Center - Cincinnati, OH
06-20-2005: Tweeter Center Boston - Mansfield, MA
06-15-2005: Nissan Pavilion - Bristow, VA

I had the great misfortune of hearing it live twice, San Francisco and Cincinnati.
Your special Larry.
I actually heard it played live TWICE. I was at the Aspen show and at the Nissan show. It was total buzzkill at Nissan. I think I used it for a potty break in Aspen. However, standing 5 feet away from Jimmy all night at Aspen he probably could have sang "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and I would have been awestruck. Thankfully he chose "Coast of Marseilles" for the encore. :D :D :D *sigh*

But Trippin' Billies. PUKE.

Even Jimmy's rendition of the Stones "You Can't Always Get What You Want" (Millenium Show) which is quite possibly my all-time favorite song, totally blows too.

With covers he either owns them or blows them.

I'd prefer few to no covers, but if Jimmy's there and I'm there, it's always a good time. :D :D

MAYBE he'll do "Feelings" if he's reeeeally tipsy one night!
If he ever covers "My Way", we're screwed.
Elvis did.

On the Road Again, Brown Eyed Girl, Waiting in Vain, Southern Cross, Glory Days, and Scarlet Begonias - 6 covers (and you could make a case for 7 if you include 5 o'clock)? Don't get me wrong, SC and SB are two of my favorite covers he does, and I do like all his covers (except Glory Days, ugh) - made a nice CD of his cover versions, but this just seems to be too many.

What I've always liked about covers during a show (by anybody), is that you don't expect it - with Bubba lately, just seems, I don't know, played out.

Oh, on another note, does anyone else think that "Everybody's On the Phone" is an awful encore choice? Just wondering....

OK, you can flame me now......
I don't know if I mind the covers as much as I just think of some of his own great songs I could be hearing. But I agree he does not do well with "Glory Days" or "On The Road Again". But what he does is his choice and I'll keep paying to go to his concerts.

I also think that with each cover that he does, the overall quality of it gets worse.

His acoustic version of "Overkill" is flat out amazing

I saw him on a tour a few years ago in a small venue. One of the best shows I have ever seen and a true gentlemen to boot

I agree....too many covers....He has so many songs of his own to choose from...I dont get it.

I was listening to the 9/2 recording and realized that Jimmy forgot the words to On The Road Again and messed up Southern Cross....

Ah Well....I will still love him and whatever he decides to play..

I like the covers. Except trippin billies. The rest of them, I love to hear jimmy sing. I can appreciate wanting to hear more of his own work, but I know how Jimmy's songs are going to sound when Jimmy sings them. It's exciting to hear something totally off the wall and see how he does with it. I was in Cincy when he played "Once in a Lifetime". It was great. And everytime I witness a cover song, the crowd loves it! (except trippin billies). So I am sure he doesn't see a need for change. For the record, When I hit the road to come down to Tampa, I will have a smile on my face as "On the Road Again" plays in my mind, and will be hoping that he throws in "Pacing the Cage".

it is not that i dislike the covers

it is that some songs of jimmy's

margaritaville etc .

are played at every show so are some covers brown eyed girl for example

i like the new covers and new songs when i hear them live some buffett songs i did not care for on the album but love live the converse is also true

the real issue is many of us go to multiple shows per tour and listen to many or all of the shows in a tour so for us on the road again or others may get old because we may not like the song to begin with or like his cover even less
but i saw in my room in April so i don't need to see it again i have that recording but if that were the show i saw jimmy at this year and didn't follow the concerts/artist i would think that was the show he played it at which is prbly 85% of the people there.

I will go along with the need to mix it up. But certain things aren't going to happen- the vast majority of people in the venue are there for their one buffett concert of the year. A lot of people aren't the kind of fan that folks around this forum are. So they go to the show, they hear something they like, they react to it positively. Those people are not at the next show in the next city. So the cycle continues. Say you have a hundred people that saw him sing on the road again 4 times this year. Everybody else is gonna get excited.

Personally, this will be the first time I will see 3 shows in one year. I do hope to hear something different in Tampa. But for the most part, I doubt it will happen. It was a real rush in Cincy when he covered talking heads, because I knew I was witnessing something that had never happened before. But he ain't gonna bump Margaritaville to give it to us.

No matter what, it will be a highlight of the summer.....or what ever you call november in florida.....

I don't mind the covers but I surely do wish he'd go back and start adding in past older songs from albums that he does play anymore or has never played.

Of course I have also been known to say I wish he'd get back to writing more songs on his albums.
