I wish he'd cover more like "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald"

Cover that, Freebird, Innagadadavida and Layla and you would have about half a show right there.

Lately I've been thinking that he and the CRB could do a great version of "One More Saturday Night", especially in the style that Bob Weir did on "Ace".

Uh huh. Or most anything else by Gordon Lightfoot.

Covers aren't so bad but isn't the JB library large enough?

As much as I enjoy most of the covers that JB has thrown into the setlist in the past few years, I think that adding 2 or 3 of his lesser played songs would be a nice treat for those of us who have listened to his music, bought his music, videos, concert tickets, etc.
I agree with the sentiment that "Everybody's on the Phone" is not one of his stronger efforts only compounded by the scanning of the audience to show people on their mobile devices while he plays it live.... I could go on but won't.
I really enjoy "Take the Weather with you" as I am a big Crowded House fan and thought he did a great version. Glory days is best left with Springsteen who I haven't really enjoyed since "The River"; so perhaps I am biased.
Would most of us agree that having him play encores such as: Defying Gravity, Tin Cup, Changing Channels, 12V Man, etc. would be a nice closing note. Also really wish he had done Come Monday on the Sunday show of labor day weekend at Gillette....it just would have been perfect as an encore.
All of that said, I still dig what JB is doing and have no plans to stop supporting the shows. I also thought it was a really great touch to play the GL encore up in Toronto. Always fun to ponder the possibilities and complain a little.

Unless you mean specifically as an encore, he did play Come Monday at the Sunday show.
you are correct

Yes you are correct, I should have been more specific, I would have liked it as an encore....even though I realize he rarely (if ever) plays it as one. I was at the show.

Okay, you made me nervous. I knew I was drunk, but I was pretty sure I remembered hearing it.

Said for years he should do a "Songs You don't Know By Heart" tour as a shout out to us old folks. Play zero of the standards. Every night something different and obscure.

Oye Como Va
As a very minor league musician.....

As a very minor league musician.....I can tell you that two things go through my head some nights....
1. Oh my God - do I have to play XXXX again? Love the song, but 20,000 times is enough
2. There are a lot of great songs out there that I like and want to pay a little 'homage' by singing them....
Long time musicians have four choices - play the same songs differently (The Dead), Play different songs (Buffet), go numb (Wayne Newton? -sorry, couldn't resist)or quit/take a hiatus(many)
JB just needs to choose these songs carefully and COVER THEM WELL (ex: most nights - SC, BEG) not badly - and stick to JB songs in general
"...and don't forget who's taking you home, and in whose arms you're gonna be..."

I don't mind most of JB cover tunes, but I absolutely despise Glory Days, especially the original version.

I like the cover songs. But Everybody 's on the Phone is not - in my opinion- a good encore song.. He has soooo many more that seem fitting for encore excitement.

Over a year ago, I remember a thread where some folks were speculating that Jimmy was going to be cutting back touring severely (dare I even suggest, retiring?)
As far as I'm concerned, for as long as he wants to keep doing this, he can play whatever he wants and I'll keep going!
How about some Buddy Holly???

im sick of them to and believe me every setlist i look at i always wonder why he keeps playing so many of them.i mean this year he drops his own song wdwgdas only to add another cover song!! it really makes me question how much jimmy likes his own music.there is zero need for songs like glory days, southern cross, brown eyed girl,on the road again, scarlett begonias, once in a liftetime, etc to be played at every show.and absolutely no need for southern cross and brown eyed girl to be played every single year!! jimmy u can play your songs from your albums, remember how many platinum and gold albums you have???your fans bought them so we would like to hear those songs!!the album fruitcakes alone is one of your most popular and you rarely play anything from it.and i am a diehard fan and go to multiple shows every year and will continue to do so,but some more attention to your own work would be greatly appreciated by jimmy buffett fans!!

I'd take any of those covers you mentioned, including Glory Days over WDWGD. I'm glad he dropped it from the setlist
