Glory Days Lyrics

I had a friend was a big baseball player
back in high school
He could throw that speedball by you
Make you look like a fool boy
Saw him the other night at this roadside bar
I was walking in, he was walking out
We went back inside sat down had a few drinks
but all he kept talking about was
Chorus:
Glory days well they'll pass you by
Glory days in the wink of a young girl's eye
Glory days, glory days
Well there's a girl that lives up the block
back in school she could turn all the boy's heads
Sometimes on a Friday I'll stop by
and have a few drinks after she put her kids to bed
Her and her husband Bobby well they split up
I guess it's two years gone by now
We just sit around talking about the old times,
she says when she feels like crying
she starts laughing thinking about
Chorus
My old man worked 20 years on the line
and they let him go
Now everywhere he goes out looking for work
they just tell him that he's too old
I was 9 nine years old and he was working at the
Metuchen Ford plant assembly line
Now he just sits on a stool down at the Legion hall
but I can tell what's on his mind
Glory days yeah goin back
Glory days aw he ain't never had
Glory days, glory days
Now I think I'm going down to the well tonight
and I'm going to drink till I get my fill
And I hope when I get old I don't sit around thinking about it
but I probably will
Yeah, just sitting back trying to recapture
a little of the glory of, well time slips away
and leaves you with nothing mister but
boring stories of glory days
Chorus (repeat twice)
but if you put a reggae beat, and steel pan music in there....
kinda like "Born in the USA".. not exactly the best campaign theme song if your people have actually listened to the lyrics.

If only you'd have been Ronnie Reagan's Campaign Manager R2 you could have warned him!!

Wasn't it Bush Sr. that played it as their victory song?

I'm not a big fan of "Glory Days", but I did enjoy Jimmy's version at the 9/2 Gillette show, where he changed the lyrics to his friend being a Red Sox prospect and blowing curveballs past Yankees and making them look like fools.
Maybe it's just me
I do like how Jimmy "Buffetizes" some songs, and makes them his own, like Scarlett Begonias, Brown Eyed Girl and Southern Cross, but I wouldn't put Glory Days in that category. I hope it doesn't get added to the setlist on a regular basis. Keep it as a once or twice a concert season kinda thing.

Jimmy-we know you love it-it just isn't one of our favorites, and definitely is not a concert closing song.

Still not a fan of Jimmy doing Glory Days.
Maybe if he got the words right it would be okay.
On another note I finally got to hear the Pirate/Redemption Song medley tonight and did not like it. Pirate did not flow well into it and it seemed out of place. I'd rather them do the whole song if they are gonna include it.
Just my opinion though and we know what those are like

I'm really not a G.O.P (Grumpy Old Parrot)

I haven't heard him play it so it's hard to make a judgement on keep it or not but I have always liked the song as done by Bruce Springsteen.
As I have said before about other setlist postings. I wish he would continue to mix it up and even lessen the SYKBH on the list. So if he wants to add a cover or 10, go ahead but I also wish he'd add a few more of his own older things.

Disagree, her current show can't s*** enough, but I think she is a very good actress.

I am a big Boss fan, but Glory Days is not one of my favorites. Springsteen can take himself a bit too seriously at times, but I enjoy his stuff quite a bit. I think there are a few dubious choices on this summers list by Jimmy. Opening with On the Road Again? The reefers are great, but they have butchered this song a couple of times, particularly the first Gillette show. Anyway, I would replace Glory Days with Ragtop Day. BTW, I really like Jimmy's version of Mexico.

Glory Days ala Buffett is possibly the worst thing I have ever heard by anyone live ever. It's not a Springsteen thing its just merely the way it sounds "thrown" together by Buffett and the band.
It's not like I have real choice on the matter but you asked for my opinion.

Obviously the song "speaks" to Jimmy. There has to be some heart-felt reason for him to continue to DO this song and he wants to "use" it to get a message out to his audience.

its terrible and a wasted position in the setlist that should be dedicated to playing a jimmy buffett song!!now theres an idea!!play 27 jimmy buffett songs at a jimmy buffett concert

Its a lousy song when Bruce sings it and even worse covered by JB. I agree with most that there has to be alternative either within JB's repertoire or elsewhere
