Apparently some people can't remember what they wrote or perhaps they don't realize that by stating that the post is "where I'm aligned politically, morally, etc." does imply that you are supporting the ideas put forth. And in any discussion, not a debate or war, but discussion of reasoned thought, you need to be prepared to have your ideas challenged. If you didn't wish to engage in a discussion about these emails that you have posted then you could have stated that you were not open to discussion in any way, shape or form and that only the ideas put forth by you were the only one's acceptable or the other alternative is not to post something that will spark a response.

You posted these because they struck a chord with you, which leads me to believe that your beliefs are similar to those expressed. Suffice it to say, mine aren't, and as you requested, I'm not going to start an argument with you, if for no other reason, any discussion/argument that could be had in a productive manner would be had through open conversation and not posts back and forth.

All that being said, there is one point you made that I have thought for years, simply by studying basically history: Civilizations don't last. They don't. They grow, the rise, they fall, something else comes along to replace it. There is no reason, other than blind ignorance, to believe this civilization is any different.

I think our entire government is scary; their incompetence and inability to function accurately and without much bulls#it is ludicrious. My latest case in point:

One of my best friends is the wife of an army soldier. He has already done two tours in Iraq (one during the birth of their first son). He is re-enlisting in the Army (five years are up) and they put in to get transferred to Germany. (getting a little tired of Missouri, ready for a change of scenery). Their second son is due November 10th. Hubby has to be in Germany to report for duty December 10th. My best friend, his wife, will have to stay behind and bring herself, the family dog, and the two little boys later, because it will take NEARLY TWO MONTHS to get her newborn son his passport and security clearance to leave the country.

WTF?!?!?!?!? Like he's a security threat!!!!!! He can't even hold his head up yet at 1 month old! Geez.

I would agree with the complaceny theory and would dearly love to see our current system be replaced. (sigh)

I think it is amusing that so many people think our government is broken and run by morons. In our republic, we the people elect these people. Aren't these people we elect a reflection of ourselves? People scream that there should be term limits...erm...vote for the other guy. People complain that their schools are terrible and not safe...ummmm...it's their kids and the school board they elected. The people of New Jersey say 'all our politicans are corrupt'...guys, you voted for them. It isn't the politicans that are responsible for the problems, it is the voters.

I would love to see a viable third party. I could get behind the libertarians if they would just drop their hippie drug stance and their support if baby killing. Any third party would be great though except for that wacky tree hugging green party. The congress and senate would probably get a lot more done if no party had more than 40%.

Rick, since I'm the one that posted the Snopes link I feel it necessary to respond. For the record, I am not a "damn liberal" or any other kind of liberal .... or a Democrat .... or a Republican .... or a conservative. As I stated, my post had nothing to do with politics and everything to do with accuracy. If you'd like to post some inaccurate information with a liberal slant I'd be happy to do a quick Google search and point out any inaccuracies.
As nearly as I can tell, I'm completely awake. And if wanting the "whole truth" qualifies me as ignorant then I must be using a different dictionary than you are. Everybody seems to have an opinion on what's ruining this nation .... most of the time the answer is "everybody else".

THANK YOU!!!!

I also love the all politicians are corrupt angle. There really are only a select few bad apples (that get all the publicity). People that say "oh he's in the back pocket of big oil." Well, let's see why. Campaigns are expensive. Even running for something as simple as running for state legislature can cost upwards of $100,000, and most Congressional seats upwards of $500,000 (and I'm sure higher if it's a moderate and competitive district). So when you're strapped for cash and worrying about if you're gonna have enough money to make that one last push in the last week before the election, and an interest group comes along and PERFECTLY LEGALLY offers you a donation and an endorsement, you're probably gonna take it. Check the FEC webpage or your local board of elections. You can see for every candidate where their campaign contributions are coming from.

Just remember, we elect the "skeevy" politicians in office. Don't like any of the candidates? Run for yourself next time!

Umm, Rick? When was the last time you actually sat in on a college class? Because unless my college is the exception to the norm, I can with pretty fair certainty that the professors are feeding us with radical fundamentalist ideas. And I guess my professors are the exception to the rule that they keep their partisan ideas out of their classes.

I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with seed.

Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food.

But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above
the table, and next to the barbecue.

Then came the poop. It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, the table... everywhere.

Then some of the birds turned mean:

They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket.

And others birds were boisterous and loud:
They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food.

After a while, I couldn't even sit on my own back porch anymore.

I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone.

I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio.

Soon, the back yard was like it used to be...... quiet, serene and no one demanding their rights to a free meal.

Now let's see....... our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care, free education and allows anyone born here to be an automatic citizen.

Then the illegal's came by the tens of thousands.

Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments are housing 5 families: you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor: your child's 2nd grade class is behind other schools because over half the class doesn't speak English: Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box; I have to press "one" to hear my bank talk to me in English, and people waving flags other than "Old Glory" are squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties.

Maybe it's time for the government to take down the bird feeder.

Rick, I like your metaphor. It works beautifully as an illustration. I'm not sure if it will be that easy to do in terms of illegal immigration but it is a pretty picture you paint.

yeah, you should have seen what was scouting the parking lot @ wal-mart yesterday...in broad daylight.. Makes you want to consider a concealed weapon permit.

I'm just glad that I parked close to the entrance, I darn sure would have wanted to have seen either one of them @ night...

first trip to Corpus Christi, years ago, my great Aunt would not allow us to camp on Padre Island, she said they'd slit your throat for $ .25...

that's just extremely disgusting, Rick, and we seem so helpless to stop it, it's gone too far?

You're kidding me, right? Because, what, he was Mexican? Latino? Y'all should come visit me sometime. In Hartford, Hispanics outnumber Whites 2-1.
