At first I thought this was funny... then I realized the awful truth Of it.

Be sure to read all the way to the end!

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table
At which he's fed.

Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.

Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.

Tax hi s ties,
Tax his shirt,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.

Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.

Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries, then
Tax his tears.

Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass

Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.

When he hollers,
Tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.

Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid.

Put these words
upon his tomb,
"Taxes drove me to my doom..."

When he's gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply
The inheritance tax.

I once was sent an email, where they took a single man, who made $40K a year. They showed how much he got in his weekly payckeck, and then went thru the average week, showing how much was paid in taxes, first out of his paycheck, but then spending his money on utilities with all their taxes, buying beer and cigarettes, taking a woman out on a date ( rooms and meals tax), going shopping etc. At the end of the week, after paying all the taxes, it was really sad to see how much we pay into our goverment, so "our public servants" can live like kings and give themselves payraises and golden parachutes.

excuse me?

WTF are you talking about? I know a few retired county engineers, and while they are not subsisting on dogfood, they are not exactly "living like kings."

You want golden parachutes and living like kings for minimal effort, take a look at the retirement packages the recently-retired oil company CEO (forget the guy's name) and Jack Welch got..

I think he/she meant the POLITICIAN type public servants not the police, fire, road, etc. Although I don't agree with paying someone's pension because they put 30 yrs in as a state/federal worker UNLESS it's a police/fire or rescue type.

And the sad thing is that there are people out there that say we aren't taxed enough. That more money needs to go to the government and less to the person who earns it.

It is frightening to think about, but one thing to point out is yeas, 100 years ago none of those taxes existed, but also 100 years ago cars barely existed, there was (obviously) not nearly the amount (if any at all--can't remember when the phone was invented. Whoops.) of telecommunication, the population was not what it is and therefore the necessary infrastructure was a fraction of what's required today. That being said, I do not agree with all (or any) of the taxes listed, and I certainly believe that there is WAY too much tax.

This was fun,but with some notable historical errors:

Liquor tax: one of the first taxes congress imposed in 1791 was a tax on the large producers of alcohol to finance the costs of the revolutionary war. This tax caused the "Whiskey Rebellion" of 1794. The tax has existed, in one form or another, ever since.

Federal income tax: first appeared during the Civil War to finance the war. As president, Lincoln paid $200 in 1863. Congress ultimately returned it to him.

Excise tax: this type of tax can be defined as various types of taxes used since the start of our country. The most common being the tariffs imposed on imports to the U.S. as early as 1792. This was the PRIMARY means of financing the federal government until the Civil War.

I'm not trying to defend Washington and taxes. I'm a Libertarian.

Prior to the civil war the federal govt did very little. It often sold bonds to finance large land purchases and unusual military activities (Mexican-American War). As Washington's power grew after the Civil War it assumed more responsibility for the operations between the states and for projects like the Reconstruction. As power shifted from the states to Washington more money was needed.

Sorry, this Early American Civics class is over. I'm starting to get wound up.

I thnk the more apporporate term to use should have been "political public servents"

The true public servants those that put their lives on the line for us daily. And they are consistently being overlooked, under staffed, under paid and deserve to live way better than they do upon retirement.

This is the most interesting thing I've read in a long time. The sad thing about it, you can see it coming.

I have always heard about this democracy countdown. It is interesting to see it in print. God help us, not that we deserve it.

How Long Do We Have? About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:

"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government." "A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury."

"From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result

that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship."

"The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years"

"During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:

1. from bondage to spiritual faith;

2. from spiritual faith to great courage;

3. from courage to liberty;

4. from liberty to abundance;

5. from abundance to complacency;

6. from complacency to apathy;

7. from apathy to dependence;

8. From dependence back into bondage"

Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St.Paul, Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the 2000 Presidential election:

Number of States won by:

Gore: 19

Bush: 29

Square miles of land won by:

Gore: 580,000

Bush: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by:

Gore: 127 million

Bush: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by:

Gore: 13.2

Bush: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Bush won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of this great country. Gore's territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..." Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegal's and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.

ALL EUROPEAN LIFE DIED IN AUSCHWITZ
By Sebastian Vilar Rodrigez(*)

I walked down the street in Barcelona , and suddenly
discovered a terrible truth - Europe died in Auschwitz .
We killed six million Jews and replaced them with 20
million Muslims. In Auschwitz we burned a culture,
thought, creativity, talent. We destroyed the chosen
people, truly chosen, because they produced great and
wonderful people who changed the world.

The contribution of this people is felt in all areas of
life: science, art, international trade, and above all,
as the conscience of the world. These are the people
we burned.

And under the pretense of tolerance, and because we
wanted to prove to ourselves that we were cured of the
disease of racism, we opened our gates to 20 million
Muslims, who brought us stupidity and ignorance,
religious extremism and lack of tolerance, crime and
poverty, due to an unwillingness to work and support
their families with pride.

They have blown up our trains and turned our beautiful

Spanish cities into the third world, drowning in filth and crime.

Shut up in the apartments they receive free from the
government, they plan the murder and destruction of
their naive hosts.

And thus, in our misery, we have exchanged culture for
fanatical hatred, creative skill for destructive skill, intelligence for
backwardness and superstition.

We have exchanged the pursuit of peace of the Jews of
Europe and their talent for hoping for a better future
for their children, their determined clinging to life
because life is holy, for those who pursue death, for
people consumed by the desire for death for themselves
and others, for our children and theirs.

What a terrible mistake was made by miserable Europe ..

No, I really don't see a pattern here to justify profiling

So, to ensure we Americans never offend anyone, particularly fanatics intent onkilling us, airport security screeners will no longer be allowed to profile certain people. They must conduct random searches of 80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots with proper identification, secret agents who are members of the President's security detail, 85-year old Congressmen with metal hips, and Medal of Honor winner and former Governor Joe Foss, but leave Muslim Males between the ages 17 and 40 alone lest they be guilty of profiling.
Let's send this to as many people as we can so that the Gloria Aldreds and other dunder-headed attorneys along with Federal Justices that want to thwart common sense, feel ashamed of themselves -- if they have any such sense ....

As the writer of the award winning story "Forrest Gump" so aptly put it,
"Stupid is as stupid does."

Come on people wake up!!!

Professor Olson (who is "quoted" in one of the posts above) includes the following on his website:

DISCLAIMER: There is an e-mail floating around the internet dealing with the 2000 Bush/Gore election, remarks of a Scotish philosopher named Alexander Tyler, etc. Part of it is attributed to me. It is entirely BOGUS as to my authorship. I've been trying to kill it for 3 years. For details see: http://www.snopes.com/politics/quotes/tyler.asp

No political intent here .... just pointing out that you can't necessarily believe everything you receive via email.

Talk about cherry picking events to prove your point. While I think that the current "War on Terrorism" has increased the probability that a terrorist attack in the US will be the result of Muslim males between 17 and 50, I think it is terribly risky to assume that they are the only threat. Don't forget that we have a number of home grown terrorist groups who advocate violence and who have used it within the USA. These groups tend to be made up of non religious individuals and in many cases they specifically recruit white people. One also has to consider that more and more of the bombers are women, generally younger women so one cannot just focus on males.

If you are going to try to justify the practice of profiling please do so by including all the terrorist attacks around the world, including the Tamil Tigers, ELF, the Shining Path, the rebels in Nepal, various and sundry independence movements, the rebels in Mexico, the FNLA in Columbia, the various groups doing ethnic cleansing in the Balkans, Africa and a host of other places around the world. If the only threat to us was from young Muslim Arab males, I would say, go ahead and profile however the problem is much larger then that and to forget that there are other people out there who will be quick to exploit any weakness is at best risky and at worst criminal.

Part of the problem Europe is having with so many of its immigrants is the fact that many Europeans are bigots. This applies both in terms of cultural views as well as legal views. When people whose grandparents and parents are born in a country, have lived there for their entire life and still cannot become a citizen and thus will always be treated like a 2nd class citizen, you are asking for trouble. That is exactly what happens in places like Germany, with Turks or in France with Congolese, or Algerians, etc. The European countries have failed to assimilate their immigrants and if we aren't careful we will repeat that mistake. Given that the immigrant population growth far outstrips the reproductive rate of Europeans, it will only be a few generations until the Europeans are a small minority of the people living in Europe. The challenge is to make sure that the immigrants become European over the next generation rather then allowing/forcing them to remain ethnically, culturally and legally removed.
