Question about encores

Post by mings »

So on Tuesday, Jimmy played Southern Cross & Everybody's on the Phone for the first encore, and In My Room and Tonight I Just Need My Guitar for the second.

The last two times I saw him this year he played Glory Days instead of EOTP.

Personally, I think EOTP killed the mood a little, but I'm curious to see what people feel about encores. I'm not a fan of canned encores, but the second encores that I've heard all year have been pretty cool. I always believed that an encore is something that should be reflective of the show, the crowd, the mood, and whatever else. To play the same thing over and over loses the fun.

Thoughts????
"Oh all the money that e'er I spent, I spent it in good company.
And all the harm that I ever did, Alas it was to none but me.
And since it falls, unto my lot, that I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and I'll softly call, 'Goodnight and Joy be with you all.'"

Same way I feel.

Oh and welcome back Mings.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Life is short, live long!!

I personally am glad he dropped Glory Days. Not a big fan of EOTP, but it is better that GD.
Love IMR with TIJNMG as the closer. Wish he would have done that in Toronto.

Where is that little piece of Prawn?

I love Southern Cross, Glory Days, In My Room and Tonight..., but despite how much I love them, I still don't think that the encores like that should come out of a can. I guess I would dig it if he switched up the encores for each show - or even just the first encore and leave the second as is. I guess all i want is originality, ....
...and maybe a pony. I want a pony.

Someone should mail him a case of rainbow wigs. Mings, you get on that. OK?

would love to see him close with tonight i just need my guitar but being that he did it on tuesday the chances are highly unlikely.he has yet to do Breath in,Breath out, Move on, or Dukes on Sunday. Those would be nice. Not a fan of the his standard cover songs as closers to the show. Would love to see Changing Channels

I don't know about how it was at MSG but I wouldn't want Southern Cross as an encore ever. As a matter of fact I wish he'd limit it in the rotation these days.

For me I just want a mellow wind down of the night as the second encore.

I like IMR and TIJNMG. Not so fond of GD.

Which was exactly what the second encore was. I'm with you on overplaying though. The same has been said for Brown Eyed Girl. Basically, his catalogue is huge, take out the favorites, the new songs, and a cover or three, .... there's still room to vary the encore.
