isn't that kinda like saying that him putting out a lot of live CD's is a double-edged sword?

I think we are lucky that he allows live show feeds and he knows damn well that someone can easily record them and they do get out to people. So to me it's like he is giving us something back for free.

I mean, for me, I own most of the live shows that are put out by Mailboat. I am missing Texas Stadium (which I can't decide if I will ever buy) and Ohio (which I will never buy).

And then I have quite a few RM feed live shows from Atlanta on CD and a few others that are acoustic.

Yep! If 100% of his fans checked out BuffettNews.com 14,000 times a day, and listened to every show online, and then debated the debates about the setlist, we (and he) might not have any problem at all!

I just think familiarity breeds contempt.......I LOVE listening to the shows and I think it's awesome that he does it......but I also think if I'd only heard Glory Days one time, live....I would think it's cool.....but since I've heard it several times, I think it s*cks.

It is a great gift to give to fans, I wish more artists did it.....esp ones that I will probably never get a chance to see live because I live in a state that is void of musical variety.

here's something to think about or at least I have

Is Jimmy that great?

Or is it that he has surrounded himself with great musicians that make him look great?

To me it's the second thing. Jimmy once said he wasn't that great a guitar player. I think he is a great lyricist and has managed to figure out how to entertain but what would he be without Mac, Robert, Peter and the rest?

He's the leader of a great band. He's a talented musician, who has surrounded himself with even more talented musicians. He's a talented songwriter, who has surrounded himself with other great songwriters.

His best gift is marketing. He's sold it to us, we love it, and if he gets more credit than he is due, so be it. He entertains us.

No, No, No..... wrong answer.

Have you ever heard him play a show, just him and his guitar? (They occasionally broadcast one on RM) He's not a great guitar player, not a great singer, BUT..... it's incredible! Fun to listen to and filled with humor.

Yes, he usually plays surrounded by truly talented musicians, but remember how often he jokes about how it originally started with the original Coral Reefer Band (no band - it was just him - that's the joke.)

Simply put, Jimmy's an extraordinary entertainer. He's having fun and the audience has a great time right along with him. :D

To me, it's both. I love just Jimmy and his guitar... but I also love Jimmy with the Coral Reefer Band, and with the Beach Band... and heck, even with the Beach Bum Band at the CIP openings.

So my conclusion, Jimmy IS that great, and does not have a problem!! :D

Currently, that's absolutely true. But I've heard stories that he was a pretty good entertainer when he only played with Marvin Gardens and Al Vacado, too.

I love the band, but seeing Jimmy alone with an acoustic guitar....that's a show I hope to see one day.

At the Cincy concert, everybody was standing up most of the time. However, I HAD to sit down a couple of times because my back and feet were hurting so bad. Gary didn't feel well and sat down for a couple of songs and some jagoff two rows behind us kept yelling, "STAND UP ! STAND UP ! NOBODY SITS DOWN AT A BUFFETT CONCERT !" He kept getting louder and louder and everybody around us was cringing. He didn't know how close Gary was to popping him in the mouth, but that wouldn't be very nice so he sat there until he felt better, then stood up. It was no disrespect to Jimmy that we sat down when we did. It was FRIGGIN' OLD AGE !!!!!!!!!!! If anybody knows who that guy was (in the club section), tell him what a numbnut rude mean son-of-a-biscuit-eater he is. There's no excuse for that. Period. Musta been one of those mean drunks.

Okay, you guys are right......and it would be a dream for me to see Jimmy and a guitar in a bar.....but I think the magic of the large arena shows is a product of the chemistry between Jimmy AND the CRB.....I'm not sure that Jimmy's type of entertainment would translate well on a large stage if it were just him, alone.....
I like it when he says he's just a bar player, or something like that....because that is where he really shines....
