I've seen Jimmy acoustic and he's awesome.
But he has surrounded himself with superior musicians that make the big shows rock.
That's the sign of a great leader.

I like to think of Jimmy as a storyteller and philosopher of life.
The combination of all of the above is why I love him.

How many songs does the average band play during a concert??

How many does Jimmy play??
Tuesday night they played 27 songs, and last night they played 26.

I would rather have 26 or 27 with a few covers than have 18 without.

Just my two cents.

the problem is he doesnt play a concert of all his songs and doesnt take a radical approach to creating a setlist that covers his catalog.

I have to agree, but the atmosphere is one of the best. Pre-show and during the show. What makes a good performer is one that is still having fun on stage and not going through the motions. And Jimmy still seems to be having fun. My two cents is for him to play smaller venues and do his own songs so as to not have to please people who are only there to hear Cheeseburger. Maybe more Tim Cup, Last Mango and Migration.

All of these types of threads show how diverse our
perspectives are regarding Jimmy, his music and the
concert experience. Jimmy's songs or even his
"Buffettized" covers still get to me every time I see
him live. Is every show "perfect"...no. He's human.
All I know is that his music, his outlook on life, the
great friends I've met through my love of his music
and even the books, music and hobbies I've discovered
through him have all enriched my life. I'll gladly listen to
him as long as he chooses to entertain us. I look forward
to his New England visits every year and will miss him when
the time comes that he stops touring. Everyone is entitled to
their opinion, I'm just glad Jimmy keeps singing so we
have something to talk about!

In Charlotte in o6 he played FLORIDAYS.... not exactly a famous song by him or a particullary exicting one, but everybody was still standing up and shouting and having a great time. I can say from experience that one or two stinkers during a show is NOT bad at all. I went to a DMB concert recently, and at least half of the songs were terrible and most people were sitting down.

And BTW, i have to rethink about weargin flip flops to a JB show.... they hurt my feet after standing up for two hours, but I'd look like a friggin square wearin running shoes....

BUT.. I DON'T CARE.. ok I do, cuz if he'd ditch the SYKBH stuff, more tickets would be available. :D
Elton John does the same. Last tour he did one song off his new album and the rest all hits with some real oldies thrown in. The last couple of tours Elton does very few new songs.

And as far as Jimmy is concerned....the covers are out of hand.
But hey, maybe he's getting bored with his own stuff...lol.

Jimmy doesn't nor has he ever had a problem. In fact Jimmy has and has always had........an opportunity.
He's taken that opportunity, run with and made out pretty darn good. So have we if you think about it.

Thanks Jimmy for making the most of every opportunity.
For reasoning with the hurricane overseasoning of whining.
For rolling with the punches while playing out all your hunches.

On and on and on and on it could go pholks.

Wow, look at all the posts. Who woulda thought.

Here's what I think the problem is:

I am saying that he HAS to play the SYKBH and the covers, and that it is a waste of his talent. You don't see that as a problem?

Does he care, maybe not. Then again, this guy has been in therapy for how many years? How would you like to write and record and put out albums every year for years, albums filled with great material, but only get to play a few select songs?

why does he get to play a few select songs??thats his choice.and its apparent that a good portion of parrotheads are getting sick of all the covers and jimmy is just ignoring and making it worse every year by adding more to the setlist instead of playing his own songs.

one thing I noticed after reading through and being involved in this thread is this.

In every case on here the following statement seems true.

You have your opinion, I have mine. You might help me to see things your way or in a different light but it might not change my opinion. It doesn't make either one of us wrong or right it just makes us US and WE are Parrotheads.

In all honesty-no matter how sick I am of BEG and not a fan of On the road again-the minute I hear hot..hot...hot... I get teary eyed and happy-I can think of no other artist who has introduced me to so many others (Patsy Cline,JJ Walker, Jim Morris, Jake (well I wont try to spell it)).

He's the leader of a great band. He's a talented musician, who has surrounded himself with even more talented musicians. He's a talented songwriter, who has surrounded himself with other great songwriters.

His best gift is marketing. He's sold it to us, we love it, and if he gets more credit than he is due, so be it. He entertains us.
For me this says most of it.

I can be in a down mood and hear almost any of Jimmy's music and my demeanor changes immediately.
I plan social engagements around a concert or an online concert at my choice. I have made some amazing phriends and many phriends whom I may never meet face to face. I love the feel, the passion and the whole phunness of JB.

Sure there are songs I like better than others and there are songs I hate....Elvis Presley Blues, Glory Days and a couple others, but I would rather hear them than hear silence.

Please Jimmy......don't leave us and go fishing!!!

the opinions expressed here are not necessarily those of this station
