Here's what I think the problem is:

I am saying that he HAS to play the SYKBH and the covers, and that it is a waste of his talent. You don't see that as a problem?

Does he care, maybe not. Then again, this guy has been in therapy for how many years? How would you like to write and record and put out albums every year for years, albums filled with great material, but only get to play a few select songs?
Most entertainers don't have the opportunity to be playing their songs this many years down the road or putting forth new material.

I see that as less of a problem than the guys that are giving guitar lessons for a living now.

Well, I'll be dog goned!! Sounds like some of my collegues here have just been around too long and gotten jaded! I'm new to all this, and find it magical!!

I was at MSG last evening, too, up in the high seats, and let me tell you, most folks stood much of the time...too much to my liking, to tell you the truth, cause it made this ole lady stand too!! And it wasnt just for the yellow album songs, either.

Is Mr. Buffett the best guitar player or singer around...maybe not...does he sing his songs that i would prefer? Not by a long shot!! but you'd have to go a long way in space and time to find a more talented entertainer.....I mean, who else do you know who inspires what i saw as i looked around on tues nite, the world's largest chorus!! well trained, knowing all the words and melody, and ecstatic to be wailing with fellow parrotheads. There just arent many experiences in life like that. We feed off him, and he feeds off us....a perfect example of symbiosis!!

I have to remind myself that we should all be very grateful for those once every year or so yellow album fans....there are alot more of them than of us, and they are the ones buying all those tickets which keep bringing Mr Buffett back to US year after year....!!!! More power to 'em, I say!!

And while we're on the subject of Glory Days....not my favorite either, but I realized as i watched his face on the jumbo screen last nite as he sang it....it means alot more to him than just a song of his friend Bruce....or a geographical reference.....you could tell that the message of the song was important to him at this point in his life, and he was trying to express it, tho, to be sure, we 'didnt get it'. So give him a break...let him do one for himself once in a while, ok?

I was in section 422, and many were standing. Well at least for the yellow album stuff. The rest most sat down. As for me, I sat on every song. But I still had a good time. I did notice the short attention span people were confused with the James Brown and Pavarotti tribute. Sadly the audio was very bad and I couldn't hear it over the idiots screaming for Jimmy while the crew was breaking down. Hint: It's over when the instruments are being put into the cases. House lights up and the crowd leaves, and I still can't hear the music.

But you know what. Nothing wrong with the "Songs You Know By Heart". That's what hooked me back in 91. And as long as he plays them, it gives me comfort. I don't scream like many or get over excited. But I can smile and say, yea. That's from when I had more hair.

Thank you for clarifying! But I see that as more of a problem for an avid parrotthead rather than a problem for Jimmy.

the average fan doesnt go to a jimmy buffett show because he is playing brown eyed girl, southern cross, glory days, dixie chicken, scarlet begonias, on the road again, etc. in fact they dont even know he's going to play those songs. they buy the ticket so they can hear the yellow album and tailgate, not hear cover songs. so the way i see it the tickets have already been sold so jimmy can play a setlist of 27 of his own songs. instead of being so wrapped up in selling non-musical products jimmy should take note of the songs he plays from year to year and show to show. i heard both dixie chicken and scarlet begonias last year!
