Country Artist?

The recent Kenny Chesney threads (from a couple of weeks ago) that led me back into the Buffett News world, after a loooooong hiatus, has led me to wonder..

Who do these folks consider to be their favorite artist among CURRENT country acts? Seriously, people tend to knock and disrespect those that they don't particularly like.. so I have to ask the country music fans here..

Who ARE your favorite country music acts out there TODAY? And WHY?

AND NO BASHING OF OTHERS CHOICES... I'm very serious in my curiosity here.. consider it "market research" if you will and for those of you that know me - you understand why I'm curious. I have a very good handle on the "parrothead demographic" so I'm curious who this demographic deems good enough for them to give a listen. Remember.. I'm asking about CURRENT artist..

Well, when you consider that probably 80% of my nearly 300 CDs are country, that makes the list a little hard to pair down. Since you did say current artists, that means I can leave out Hank Sr., Restless Heart, Alabama, Bob Wills, Patsy, Chris LeDoux, John Denver and people like that.

Active artists, in no particular order:

Brooks and Dunn
Vince Gill
Patty Loveless
Travis Tritt
Alan Jackson
Montgomery Gentry
Hank Jr.
Jason Aldean
Doug Stone
Reba
Trisha Yearwood
Asleep at the Wheel
George Strait
Charlie Daniels
Clint Black
and many many others

There are many others I like, but here are my favorites:

George Strait
Mac McAnally
Kenny Chesney
Toby Keith
Brad Paisley
Tracy Lawrence
Rodney Atkins
Travis Tritt
Alan Jackson
Buddy Jewell
Phil Vassar
Lyle Lovett
Brooks & Dunn
Rascal Flatts
Sara Evans
Trisha Yearwood
Martina McBride
Reba McEntire
Faith Hill
Allison Krause

(And if we could go backwards, Alabama, Chris LeDoux, John Denver and Sawyer Brown would be high on the list)

Ya know their still touring, right? I saw them on a Direct101 concert series last month playing the big country festival up in Ohio (and yes, it was from this Summer's show) plus, I know they are playing here next weekend for an annual music festival we have.. although, I guess your right - they do spend more of their time producing others in the studio these days than they do recording themselves..

As far as mainstream country, if that's what you call it.

Is Asleep at the Wheel country?

Or Lyle Lovett?

Jerry Jeff Walker?

Guess I shouldn't really answer since I don't consider myself a country fan. I do watch CMT and GAC at times. I also catch ACL when I can.
